We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Timothy Moore a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Timothy, thanks for joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
I always felt like an entrepreneur and deep inside I wanted to start a business but nothing really motivated or inspired me to start until my dad passed away. The ideas I did have I usually went to someone else to find validation but usually ended up giving up on the ideas.
My father passing away gave me inspiration in an unexpected way. After the funeral was over I found myself crying my heart out over his death, but was unsure where the pain was coming from until I realized I was crying because could not blame his absence from life growing up as the reason for my failures in life. All the time I spent focusing on him not being around help me back from finding my path and purpose. At this realization I forgave him n my heart and let him go.
I kept hearing God’s voice in my head and in my heart saying “write the vision” which I knew was a verse from the bible and amazingly enough I wrote vision statements for others but never took the time to write one for myself. I wrote my vision down and kept it close to my heart and in my view and things starting turning in my life. I felt empowered and purposeful. Something inside me was activated in a way that I never felt. I realized this feeling and experience of feeling empowered and purposeful is something others need immediately. I decided to start a business writing vision statements for people and impact people’s lives all over the world. I decide to call the business Vision Writers USA. I called a friend who had their own business and asked how to start an LLC and she drove me to the secretary of state’s office and we go the LLC done that same day. It’s been an intentionally journey ever since to realize the vision each day!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Timothy Moore is the owner of Vision Writers USA, the recognized global leader in the creation of vision statements that inspire and facilitate community growth and economic development. I go by the moniker “The Clarity Doctor” because I give business owners and entrepreneurs the clarity to succeed. Many of us are walking around “blind” or “unaware” of our unintentional living. We spend most of the time thinking of the past and not enough time thinking about where we want to go or where we want our lives to end up. We are caught in responding and reacting to situations instead of producing outcomes that change our lives and the lives of those we care about. We end up having very scattered lives where everything is a priority and which makes us feel overwhelmed.
Vision Writers uses 5 key principles to create clarity about your destination and assists you in bringing your now into alignment with the vision you see.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I spend a significant amount of timing listening to Myron Golden on YouTube. His biblical philosophy on business and life has been highly impactful and pivotal to my mind set and focus. In addition The Social Proof Podcast has shaped my journey as well!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Growing up money was something you spend and “try” to save which has challenged my financial growth. I have to unlearn this since being in business because money goes in and out like the tide so as “currency’ I have learned to expect it to come and go. No longer trying to “save” it but now looking to move it as quickly as possible in order for it grow and serve it’s purpose.
