We recently connected with Timothy Johnson II and have shared our conversation below.
Timothy , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
I would focus more on teaching financial literacy early on. American’s are in tremendous debt because they don’t know how money works and some don’t even care to learn. I’m just now learning how credit works and how to right stuff off of my taxes. Also understanding ways to make my money grow without having to do anything but put it into a Roth IRA or Life Insurance is the best thing I learned this year. I use the 75/10/15 plan everytime I get paid 75% of the money is used for myself, 15% is invested and 10% is used for savings.
Timothy , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I come from a family full of Entrepreneurs. My mom became a real estate agent back in 2020 and it inspired me it wasn’t instant though. I tried the college route and it wasn’t for me so I tried something different and got into real estate. Being a real estate agent isn’t just selling homes you have to be a therapist, friend and sometimes even a financial advisor. I love keeping up with my clients and educating them on things the average person who’s not in my field wouldn’t know. I’m proud of the fact that I’ve finally gotten to the point in my life that I enjoy learning. I feel as if you should learn something new everyday.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had to pivot when I realized that the money wasn’t just going to come to me. I thought when I got in the industry I’d get instant support and everyone would come to me to buy and sell their home that’s not true. My business didn’t start to take off until I stopped being lazy
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
If you know how the real estate market was in 2023 then you understand that any real estate agent who’s still in the business after that is extremely resilient. The average agent last year only sold one house or less. I work for the #1 Coldwell Banker Team in The Nation and seeing them succeed and still almost get 1billion in sales last year. Have me all the resilience I needed.
