We were lucky to catch up with Timothy Hines Jr recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Timothy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I grew up in a very musical household, and everyone in my family was gifted and talented, at times I questioned rather or not I wanted to do it because my siblings where so great and I didn’t won’t to be compared to them. But, my mom always encouraged me. One Day I was learning a song for church cause my mom was a pastor and I hit a chord on my keyboard and I liked it so much that I recorded it and 10 minutes later I made a whole track on my keyboard and that’s how I fell in love with the process of making music.
Timothy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Timothy Hines Jr. I Go by the Name of GRT. I’m A Artist, Producer, And Songwriter, who hails from Sarasota Florida .Ive always been a creative person who love’s music.
I Grew up in a Very musical family, I Taught myself How to produce, Engineer, and play keys.
which took a lot of discipline and practice. I’m a very passionate person,
and I believe who ever hears the music I’m involved in can feel that.
As a Producer. My job is to provide the overall feeling, set the tone and mood for who ever I’m working with.
To put them in a space to where they feel free to create, be them selves, feel inspired.
As a Songwriter. Its my job to tell the artists story in the most authentic way possible that best describes and reflects
them and how their feeling in that particular moment. And to make sure that there their Story is being told with as much dignity as possible.
As an Artist. it’s my Job to Take the listener on a journey, to make them forget whatever’s bothering them or whatever had them upset that day, to lift their spirits and in some cases mirror what they’re going through through song.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
the most rewarding aspects of being an artist to me is making the listener feel something when they hear you, they can feel chills, get goose bump, or when a fellow musician or artist
gives you the stank face, and one of my personal favorites, When a song puts the listener in a choke hold when they can’t stop listening to it, to me as a creative that lets me know that I did my job.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
My Mom, before she passed managed both me and my sister. And she was a major push and influence in both of our lives, and after she past I had to rediscover My Love for playing and my love for music. I had just turned 21 before she past and it was hard on all of us. and I can honestly say without God Music and the prayers of my family and friends I wouldnt be here.
