We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Timothy Harper a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Timothy , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
The band Cabin 13 was formed officially back in 2018 by members Timothy Harper and Alejandro Cruz. We had first met and started playing music together at a Christian camp in Leesburg FL where another friend of ours gave us the idea of starting a band and not thinking much of it I (Tim) started writing songs and forming Cabin 13. Within our first year we played a show for the first time at a coffee shop in Sanford FL named Palate Coffee and that’s where we first started falling in love with playing music for a live audience. Along with many other opportunities to perform in the years we’ve written many songs some of which will be coming out October 7 with our next EP “DITR” (which stands for “Diamond In The Rough” the title of the third track of four on the ep). This found love for performing and writing has led us to the desire to pursue this path of music wherever it may take us!

Timothy , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We are a band formed originally in 2018 by members Timothy Harper (Guitarist/Vocalist) and Alejandro Cruz (multi-instrumentalists), with their first work “The Biting Goat EP” and has released a couple other singles along the way. In 2020 we hit a bit of a dry spell as along with everything that happened that year Tim and Alejandro were in the middle of college and along with work had little time to pursue much in the lines of music. However, near the end of that year Tim met the bands now current drummer Sebastian Puga. The two met working together at a Chick-fil-A while Sebastian was in town attending UTI for mechanical schooling. The band is currently finishing up their first EP together as a trio “DITR” and it will be released October 7th
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The band has had many trials as Sebastian had to move back home to northern Georgia after finishing school. At the time he first joined Tim and he were both living in Central Florida and Alejandro was and is still living in Tampa. The circumstances makes practice and getting gigs a bit of a challenge but Tim and Alejandro have had some success getting a couple shows together and the band is looking forward to being able playing a show together as the full trio soon!

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me (Tim) it’s being able to share myself and my experiences through my writing and performance. And through that being able to connect with and show love for people through our music, and hearing how our music has helped them in their own lives is one of the greatest moss rewarding feeling I’ve ever experienced.
