We recently connected with Timothy Guerra and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Timothy, thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
i have always been eclectic hobbyist. learning new skills drives my passion for innovation and has helped shape my future in many positive ways. my main resource for learning any new task is probably the internet i pride myself as a self starter. anything ive wanted to learn i have immersed myself in. yes i’ve talked to many professionals and experts on things i am learning about however its really hard to get the whole truth especially if those people felt threatened by my ability to learn a new skill quickly
i have always dreamed on becoming a full time musician but i didn’t apply myself at all until i was introduced to the world of sound healing. i think the timeline for learning new skills is perfect for me however i know in my heart i should have accepted the call to be an artist a-lot sooner.
my most essential skill i have learned is how sound works and how to apply it therapeutically. its opened many doors for me to showcase an alternative side to wellness and has given me an outlet to create art i and other enjoy. another essential skill i have acquired has been able to build pretty much anything i set my mind to build. in my line of work there are not a-lot of cost friendly resources to obtain so sometime i need to think outside the box to create my vision.
my biggest obstacle has to be my self. i am very critical of my work and strive for perfection sometimes making it very difficult to complete anything at times.
Timothy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
my name is Tim Guerra and i am a jewelry artist, fine gem dealer, and sound/resonance healer. i have been a touring stage manager for bands as well as a chef for many years. i migrated to utah during the height of covid to find a new career being that covid pretty much ruined my main sources of income. interested in becoming a business owner i started a business in 2020 called west desert trading company selling various works of art like paintings, clay figures, wire wrapped jewelry, crystal displays and other various items that appeal to a “witchy” demographic. i myself am intrigued by the occult and metaphysics so my business model has been very aligned to my lifestyle as well. i have alway been a creator in some capacity wether it be paintings , music, film, or any other various artistic outlet so starting this path was a no brainer for me and has offered me a-lot of success.
in October 2023 my partner Natalia and i put our lives on hold to care for her grandmother with alzhiemers. since then i have had to take a hiatus from my business to support our family in a time of need, however these sudden life changes have not stopped me in pursuing higher education. my first step was becoming a certified sound therapist. since then i have curated sound baths and worked along side my partner (Natalia Hunt L.M.T) in her massage sessions to create a new experience for her clients. this opportunity has shaped the next chapter in my life and i will be starting massage school in march.
my ability to adjust to change and learn new skills quickly has helped immensely in my journey. i have gained the support of a local salt lake city business called Rise Bodywork & Massage Therapy. they have opened many opportunities to showcase the work i have done and continue to offer their resources to follow my dreams. i can honestly say that i would have not known where to start if it wasn’t for these amazing individuals.
my mission in life is to help others understand more about themselves and the subtle energies that bind our reality. it is my dream to create wellness events that can offer a safe space for anyone seeking alternative ways to heal.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
as many know the life of an artist is never easy. even the thought of pursuing art as a career has many negative connotations such as being broke all the time or being viewed as a social outcast. that is not the case for me at all!
deep in my core i am in introvert so having to put myself out there has pushed the limits of what i can accomplish. its so rewarding to hear positive feed back about my craft especially after fighting my self through the whole creative process. sometimes i am my own worst critic so being able to navigate all the emotions involved in creating something and having people enjoy it makes it all worth it.
i say to anyone wanting to show their art to the world, DO IT! and be unapologetically yourself.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
these last four years alone have been been crucial in unlearning a negative mindset on life in general. i have had to face many hardships and adapt to an ever changing world. when i moved to Utah from San Antonio Texas it was such a culture shock and i did the journey alone. i took this opportunity to reinvent myself. some people i met on the way where supportive others not so much. i guess the biggest thing i had to unlearn is that i don’t have to be complacent in suffering. i am the creator of my reality and i have what it takes to accomplish my goals. for a while i had a very grim outlook on the state of my life causing me to downward spiral into someone i did not recognize. i was angry at the world and didn’t know how to channel that into something positive. i have been given the tools and learned from my time away from home how to navigate these negative thoughts & emotions. This has made a huge impact on my way of life. i am more focused and collected and i have a brighter outlook on my future. sometimes i do regress to my old ways it happens but i am so grateful that i now have the knowledge to change and use that energy for something amazing.
