We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Timothy Doaty II a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Timothy , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
Great question. For me, I’ve always been someone who appreciates podcasts and what they can bring, what they can offer to listeners and how it provides the ability for someone to bond or form a relationship through a shared experience or new experience that they may hear. I graduated undergrad back in 2008 with a Masters in Communications studies and media has always been something I was interested in, but I never was able to do anything with that degree. I got inspiration from a friend of mine who was working on his own podcast at the time. We would have sort of “podcast” centric conversation about life, sports, health, inspiration, what-ifs and much more and I pitched the idea of “I have so much to say on so many things, why don’t I just try this whole podcasting thing out and see what happens”. The next step for me was trying to nail down an idea of exactly what I would talk about. With so many podcast available and so many different topics being covered, it was a struggle to try an iron down a specific one area where I could focus on, so i decided not to box myself in and focus on several areas. So, after I decided what I would cover the next task was coming up with a name. I thought about how the pod could be a reflection of my personality, traits and interests. When it finally hit me I just thought of two words, Cerebral & Chaos, so that’s what I decided to name the podcast. I never set or had really any goals in what I could accomplish or do, I just wanted to tell stories that could help inspire people , make them laugh and let them know they were not alone in the world with their problems, issues or experiences. For me, the moment I knew it was worthwhile was the moment I got my first 5 star rating/comment for my one of my first episodes about putting life and trials into perspective. That’s when it hit me and I realized that’s what I wanted to get out of the podcast, not fame, not fortune, but the opportunity to change or inspire people’s lives through words.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well, my name is Timothy Doaty II. I’ve been married for 8 years to my lovely wife Kiara Doaty and we have two awesome puppies who think they are humans, Bentli and Pyper. I’m 33 years old and I have my Bachelors degree in Communication Studies and a Masters degree in Criminal Justice. I’m originally from Bastrop, Louisiana born and raised, and I moved to Calera, AL after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. There’s not a to me really, I love to spend time with my wife, watch movies, watch sports, play video games, and read manga and comics. I’m also very huge into watching TV shows. I got into podcasting by just ordering a microphone, downloading some software and just hitting “record”. My podcast is an introspective look into life, mental health, movies, tv and much more. Typically I say it’s “a podcast full of sensical non-sense structure in a fun and introspective way. Through my podcast I want to come across to my listeners as someone who understands, who relates, and I never try to speak down but only uplift. The thing that makes me most proud is just the support I receive from my listeners and just them giving me the opportunity to positively impact their lives or situations.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Honestly, it’s just always about providing a source of positive energy to anyone who may listen to the podcast. Whether its an emotional episode where we are talking about mental health and I’m saying something that helps get you through the day or us laughing at a funny story where we are just having fun, that ability to connect and inspire is what I seek to do. Like I said before, its not about money or fame or any of that, but really what can do to positively impact the lives of my listeners one way or another.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, again it’s just about the listeners. Whether it is someone telling me in person how they enjoyed my show, or someone liking a post about their favorite episode or a 5 star rating/comment, I get my reward in knowing the type of energy I am trying my best to put into my listeners now and future ones that may decide to give the show a listen.
