We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Timothy Carter a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Timothy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I started making music at the age of 12 years old. It came naturally to me. I self-taught myself how to produce beats. As I got older, I started taking my craft more seriously. Around 2009 I started performing, and I didn’t have a stage name or producer name for myself. I tried to come up with a unique and out-of-the-boxes name, but it still didn’t feel right. So something clicked in me. I had a common and famous last name, “Carter.” I believe Lil Wayne was out and hot at the time, so I knew it would get the buzz I was looking for. But I knew I had to attach it to me where it has seminal values officially. So I doubled my name, Carter Carter. I felt it was right in my heart. The first “Carter” in Carter Carter Production represents me, and the second represents my sister, Tiffany, who died when I was three. I felt like I carried part of her while on my creative journey. She was my personal angel.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Carter, and I’m the owner and founder of Carter Carter Production. I like to look at myself as an artist with a camera. I love to capture people’s most memorable moments through the lens of authenticity. Everyone has a story to tell, but sometimes our story is not told verbally. It’s told through photos and videos. I love to help individuals tell their stories with a camera. I work mainly with urban brands and unique content creators. It is fascinating how I can step outside my world into my clients and create a long lifetime visual that is sacred to them—capturing those raw natural moments. No scripts…..no rehearsal. Help them tap into their vulnerability. I adopted a liking for videography in 2020. I noticed within my company that we didn’t have a camera guy, and sometimes it was hard to book a good camera person to bring my artist visuals to life. That what sparks my interest in learning more about photography and videography. I started investing all of my days and some nights studying the craft. The more I studied, the more my passion grew for it. I thought I would always see myself producing music because that was my passion, but as I got more into creating visuals for others………videography felt like home. It felt like the missing piece of the puzzle. I started doing more visuals for local music artists and content creators. I also collaborated with my peers, like Kobenavision, Hdgenesis films, and Marcus Appling Productions. I’m very grateful for the opportunities that they have presented me. As I continue to grow with my creativity with film, I want my potential clients to know that I’m dedicated to this craft and bringing their visuals to fruition. I want them to be comfortable with being authentic and gain the confidence they may feel lacking. My brand is not just about pressing a record button…… it’s also about inspiring individuals to love themselves more. To give them the confidence to push their creativity to the next level.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is being able to provide my clients with photos or visuals that they were not expecting. The smiles of joy let me know I did an excellent job. I like how I can capture natural moments that no one thinks about—helping me seize their special moment in time. This allows them to relive their special moment again. To know I made an impact in a good way. It is also rewarding to know that, as an artist, I have endless opportunities to create. I don’t allow life circumstances to limit me when it comes to my brand or my creativity. It’s fulfilling knowing that I’m creating timeless pieces that will be passed down from generation to generation. I know I will only get better.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
One of my goals is to become a more successful videographer and film director.
I want to expand Carter Carter Production even more so that I can offer jobs and opportunities for upcoming music artists, Producers, and videographers. I want to leave a legacy that inspires others to pursue their dreams and break their limitations. Let them know that they are more significant than their shortcomings. I also want to be an example for my children. Guide them on their path where they align themselves with their passion and dreams so that they can accomplish them.
