We were lucky to catch up with Timon Adams recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Timon, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is to bring out the best in every creative that I work with. I want the artist to feel free/comfortable with me and to be able to trust me to serve them as needed. Rather that’s the recording or mix engineer to the producer and/or songwriter. My goal is to help them see the vision through and bring something beautiful to the world of music that the team can be proud of. I want the songs I work on to motivate the listener at the start of their day, to help them get over a heartbreak, or to simply be rememberable.
Timon, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I went to school to become an audio engineer in Ohio. The first school, Tri -C in Cleveland, was where I fell in love with the recording aspect of music. They have a great recording arts program. The second school, Ohio University, was where I got connected with other creatives who loved the production aspect of creating music. After graduation, I moved to Atlanta to intern at Blue Room Studios in 2017. Once I completed the internship I became an engineer and manager there. Being a manager helped me network and understand a lot of the music industry while I was still honing my skills as a producer and audio engineer. Once I got too busy working as an engineer and producer I dropped studio management to focus on better at those two things. Working as a recording engineer blessed me with many opportunities to work with different artists and companies like; Ari Lennox, NLE Choppa, Omerretta, EARTHGANG, TI, 1017, Status Management, NFL, EA Sports, and Marvel.
Now I do a lot of mixing and production for different artists, and I have a couple artists I work closely with who trust me to mix, produce, vocal coach, and creative direct their projects. I think that’s where the fun is for me right now. Being able to know how to be the piece of the puzzle to finish the artist’s picture. I think knowing where I fit in in an artist’s vision sets me apart from other producers. That and being able to help them find a vision for their art.
I’m proud of a lot of things I’ve worked on. Engineer wise I’m proud of the work I’ve done with Ari. one of the first big artists I felt a part of the team with. Being able to work on half of her last album (age/sex/location) was rewarding. The main thing I’m proud of is the work I do with an artist named Abel ( @just_abel_ on Instagram) we do a lot of production and creative directing together.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Seeing it through. Being able to see a video on YouTube or a song on Spotify and knowing the story behind that, knowing that you played a role in getting it to the finish line.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Word of mouth and social media. It’s a good feeling having someone reach out saying “Such and such said you were the guy to reach out to about this.”
