We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Timm Knight. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Timm below.
Hi Timm, thanks for joining us today. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
On this ongoing journey, I have certainly faced numerous obstacles primarily in the area of obtaining funding for my film projects. Thankfully I have a mentor who believes in me by the name of Jerome Dorn who was there to assist with my first project. I believe wholeheartedly where there is a will there is certainly a way and because of that I now have four short films under my belt. The other major hurdle not suprisingly still related to finance was to learn how to effectively prepare the proper package to even be considered for financing. Through trial and error I now know how to prepare a proper pitch package and the next phase of convincing investors to buy into my ideas begin.

Timm, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those who may not have read my previous articles, you should know that above all else I am a dreamer with a relentless drive to bring make my dreams a reality. As a creative, my head is often filled with creative ideas for television shows and movies and there is no greater feeling than being able to have others watch those ideas. My films are what I’d like to call “think pieces” because everything thing I produce ultimately will cause you to think about what you have just been shown. I believe in our society today ideas are presented to us in the media and we are expected to take them as truth. In my films, I just offer a different perspective that may or may not be true but should invoke curiosity in the viewer to do their own research. I am most proud of the fact that I have the drive and follow through to complete two books and four short films and released numerous songs over the years without any major budgets to speak of or major backers. Just a belief in myself knowing that I have something to offer this world that is worth being heard and seen.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
In my humble opinion, society as a whole can and should be more supportive of local artists and creatives. One way is by attending shows, and movie premieres which are usually nominally priced as a way of seeing something unique that is not typically privy to mass consumption. Independent artists in my opinion is definitely working hard to put on a great show because they are trying to make a name for themselves. So in truth, you actually will end up getting more than you’re paying for.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
This is a great question. I had to unlearn that any part of following your dreams is easy. Where there is no risk there is absolutely no reward. I initially thought back in the day that if I build it they would come as the saying goes. However, I more lean toward the fact that if you start building it, you will have to continue building it until it is established. In all reality, even though it may be a slower, harder path, having ownership of your ideas and your brand is more rewarding anyway.
