We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Timiah Brooks a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Timiah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?

I honestly feel like you shouldn’t have to ask for support from people who you know and love . It’s funny I’m going through this same situation as we speak ! The family and friends that do support me will always be in my heart . My main support comes from strangers ,whether it’s from me passing out my cards to them commenting on my social media . I’ve learned some things you can’t take personal . It used to make me feel sad in way . I see a lot of them post celebrity Businesses or one of their peers Businesses . I have separated myself from alot of people just because the support wasn’t genuine . I’m ok with that now . “Everyone can’t go with you “ is one of the best quotes I’ve stuck with for a long time . I have come to peace with a lot in my life and all I want is To become better for my Business

Timiah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I’m 27 , I will be attending school next year 2024 for my Lpn to expand my business.I attended school in august of 2021 . I paused my schooling due to the passing of my grandmother. I wasn’t motivated anymore after that. I recently went back 2022 and Graduated and received my license ! I always had a thing for eye brows and lashes I just wanted to explained my horizons. This was the best step for me . I never completed anything for my self other than high school .The name of my business is Trap shop atl ! I specialize in hyperpigmentation & waxing ! . I’m growing my clientele and I hope to have more regulars soon . I post everyday , either making a video or for educational purposes. I’m inlove with my Business and will prosper to bigger and better things . I can be proud to say “ my community now uses sun screen “ they know the benefits and what it could do to our melanated skin . Being a skin care provider has become popular these past years . I think me dithering my education and craft will definitely make me different from others . I constantly see everyone doing the same thing & I know I was born to be different! I want to get more people educated on their skin type , what’s for them or even starting them out with their own regimens . I am living proof of the professional products i us on my Clients because I also use them on myself . Everyone skin type is different . I also want everyone to know their is no perfect skin type. Even if their skin is clear it’s always something that can be corrected. “Find the beauty within your skin “ “are you booking or looking “ 💙

We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.

I sell in store . I have multiple products on hand . I learned and have lost money over buying products . I buy what you pre order and go from there. I keep my money in my pockets by doing that and my clients are ok with the process
