We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Timeka Green. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Timeka below.
Hi Timeka, thanks for joining us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
Let’s start here – I NEVER wanted to be an entrepreneur.
As an Human Resources (HR) professional, I saw an overwhelming number of disparities against minority professionals. Since I work in HR, rarely did employees knew and most times these disparities were not obvious. Some of the things I’ve witnessed is hiring someone who is not a minority with less skills at the same pay rate as a current employee who was a minority, had more skills and tenure with the organization, not paying the same increase to minority employees as those on their team who are not minorities, extending lower salaries in job offers, not promoting qualified minorities who truly have shown that they know the work. Unfortunately, the list goes on.
As I left organizations, past leaders (i.e. managers, CEOs, business partners/executives, employees, etc.) would contact me to help them with a current HR-related issues simply because they trusted my expertise and knowledge more than the HR professional who currently worked at their organization.
As a result, I decided to create a YouTube channel so that I can record the answers to their most repetitive and common issues. My plan was to regain my time, but still provide assistance. As I uploaded videos, I started to get subscribers who I clearly didn’t know, but loved consuming the information that I shared.
As my channel grew, I realized that their was a demand for additional resources. I created digital products, offered services/coaching, went LIVE on my YouTube channel with resources and expert guests/speakers, grew an email list and so much more.
Now, Heyyy HR by Timeka Green has grown beyond “just” a YouTube channel to a business that provides career guidance and professional development to those who are starting and growing their HR career as confidently and authentically as possible.
As a believer in faith, I always say that my business was created and guided by the Lord. With the success that Heyyy HR has had over time, the only thing I repetitively think is that I wish I had started my business earlier.

Timeka, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Timeka Green, an 11+year Human Resources professional who has worked in several different industries in various capacities both nationally and internationally. With a double masters degree and being SHRM-SCP certified, I provide a growing list of resources.
This includes, digital products on studying for the SHRM & HRCI exams, interview techniques and professional development using our Training Manual for HR Professionals. I also provide career coaching that includes a resume review and critique, guided coaching through emails, chats, etc. and virtual calls. My goal is to grow my blog, add more customized career coaching options and courses.
Heyyy HR helps professionals to not only start their HR career by identifying the best fit for their current skill set, but also how to grow in their career through professional development and certifications. What sets me apart from others is I used a relaxed, down south approach through all of my resources so that clients get the information they need without code-switching or the headaches that comes with that.
It has been so inspiring to see that so many others join my email list, subscribe to my YouTube channel and buy my digital products because they realize that the information Heyyy HR shares is not only for HR professionals, but for all professionals.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the many lessons I learned is that not all competitors are threats. Partnering with other career coaches have really given me resources, insight, knowledge and confidence that has been reflective in the growth of my business.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I initially started Heyyy HR it was focused on seasoned HR professionals. The data from my YouTube and Google Analytics showed me that I had a wider audience that needed and wanted the basic career information. I pivoted back to that target audience, which has helped me to gain the experience and even more knowledge to help my original target audience.
