We recently connected with Time Ends and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Time, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
I was working as a behavioral therapist for a company in Los Angeles when a 12 year old client with an extreme level of autism whom exhibited in server behaviors was having a real bad day. I arrived to relieve the other staff when I walked into a war zone. Items were being thrown, people were bitten and the staff as well as family members were tired from wrestling. I walked in a was debriefed on what had happened. So I walked upstairs to the clients room opened the door and saw that the client was extremely angry and was ready to attack me as well. As the client approached me I instinctually grabbed the clients little toy guitar and started playing and acting goofy and as if a light switch, the client stopped approaching me, sat down with their legs crossed and started humming to what I was playing whilst they rocked themselves instantly calming them down. It was at that moment I realized I needed to incorporate music in my in therapy sessions. This was the beginning of what I do today.
I currently co-own and manage a film and media program working exclusively with adults with disabilities assisting them to complete their projects and work towards obtaining work in the industry. We assist them in being work ready. Some of our students are film makers, you-tubers, writers and podcasters. with us there is no limitation to the creativity.
Time, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
When I was a young child I began playing guitar which shot me into the career that I have today. I started playing music with friends, formed bands and performed locally in Granada hills California. I would practice consistently once I obtained my 1st electric guitar. I didn’t have any social leisures for about a year and a half so that I could get to a place where I could begin performing.
In my early twenties I started touring with my band and then ventured off to different projects. In 2007 I partnered up with 2 other individuals to open up a studio called “IN YO FACE studios” that was managed by “Straight Up Ventures, LLC”. During a year of attempting to have the business thrive we decided to close in 2008.
In 2012 I developed TimeEnds Productions. I would produce other people’s music as I worked full time in social services, which is when I developed the idea to combine musical talents, and creative arts with the disability community. I have been able to assist clients in getting the right sound that they are trying to achieve, as well as finding the right type and style of music that fits their voice without.
One of the things that sets me apart from others is that I now exclusively work with adults with disabilities, getting them experience and opportunities that hopefully one day they would be able to obtain a job in the entertainment industry. I now run another company with a business partner that’s exclusive to adults with disabilities giving them real life experience in the entertainment industry. I want everyone to know, not just our followers, fans and clients, but we are a 100% transparent and our major goal is to give them the job experience that they need to obtain jobs on their own.
We focus on their strengths and teach them they possibly can earn income while building their resume. We are a private course that operates in San Diego California. We are looking for expansion as well as partnerships and funding to help us reach more individuals with disabilities that are interested in working in the entertainment industry.
One major discipline that I will say personally that I’ve learned is patience. Without patience you will not be able to succeed in anything you want to achieve or at least try to succeed in it to see if it’s something that you want to do to begin with. If it wasn’t for patience I wouldn’t be able to do what I do.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I myself have a disability, I have Acute Motor Sensory Axonal Neuropathy (AMSAN) which is a rare and severe variant of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). This is something I have to work through daily in order to be able to cater to the students. Most days I wake up in server pain and have to push through. This is also an example I try to set showing them that no matter what you could still do it. One way or another.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
We worked together and when i left the company I continued my program and one year later asked he he would be interested in participating. He has taken this program to a different level. He adds more than I could ever which completes the company.
