Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tim Plucinsky. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tim, appreciate you joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
I remember standing at the edge of the ocean, watching the waves rise and crash—each one powerful, steady, and unstoppable. It was a quiet moment, but something shifted in me that day. As I stood there, I felt deeply connected to something bigger than myself. The noise in my mind quieted, and a clear truth rose to the surface: This is what I’m here to do.
I realized in that moment that my true gift isn’t just helping people feel better—it’s helping them bring out their best gifts. I have a deep ability to see the strengths, potential, and power in others—even when they can’t see it themselves. That moment by the water reminded me that we all face mental obstacles, self-doubt, and inner noise—but we also have something far greater inside us: choice, resilience, and the ability to rise.
I’m most proud of helping people believe that lasting change is possible—that peace is possible—and that they can live with clarity, confidence, and a deep sense of purpose. When we train our inner world—our thoughts, focus, emotions, and identity—we unlock a version of ourselves that’s capable of anything. That’s what I call inner performance—and when it’s aligned, we’re unstoppable.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a sports and mental health therapist who works with athletes, high performers, anxiety, depression and holistic mental health (mind, body and spirit). As a former athlete, I know how mentally demanding the pursuit of excellence can be — the fear of not being good enough, the self-doubt, and the internal battles no one sees. This translates to many mental health challenges. That experience shaped my passion for helping others break through those invisible barriers.
After earning my Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Colorado Christian University, I opened my private practice, Inner-Performance, where I blend evidence-based therapy with deep personal connection. I use approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to challenge unhelpful thought patterns, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients align with their values, and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) to confront fears head-on. I love guiding clients to discover their unique strengths and helping them build lives rooted in purpose, courage, and inner freedom.
I’m most proud of the deep, lasting transformations I’ve witnessed in clients who go from feeling lost or overwhelmed to feeling empowered, steady, and more connected to who they truly are.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What’s helped me build my reputation in this field is my unwavering commitment to trust and genuine connection. For the individuals I work with, trust isn’t just important, it’s essential. They need to know they’re in a safe space, but they must also feel that I bring expertise, structure, and the right tools to help them create real momentum in their lives.
I use evidence-based modalities like ACT, CBT, DBT, and ERP in ways that are practical, grounded, and tailored to the individual. Therapy with me isn’t one-size-fits-all — I’m creative in my approach and lean into experiential work that extends beyond talk therapy. When clients take what we’ve worked on in our session and try it out in the real world, something powerful starts to happen — they begin to feel more confident and more like themselves. That kind of progress touches something deeper than insight. It builds self-worth, trust in their own strength, and a sense that real change is possible.
You can find me on Insight Timer and Psychology Today but most of my practice has grown through word-of-mouth, which I believe speaks to the strength of the relationships. When someone feels seen, supported, and equipped to move forward, they naturally share that experience with others. That kind of referral is the highest form of trust — and it’s been the cornerstone of my work.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Yes — three books have had a major impact on how I think and work: The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer, Relentless by Tim Grover, and The Inner Game of Tennis by W. Timothy Gallwey. Each one offers something powerful for anyone facing mental obstacles. The Untethered Soul teaches you how to separate from the anxious voice in your head and find peace by letting go instead of holding on. Relentless speaks to that fire inside — it shows you how to lean into discomfort, stay disciplined, and rise above limits you’ve placed on yourself. And The Inner Game of Tennis breaks down the mental chatter that gets in the way of performance — helping you trust yourself and get into flow. After working with a client, I often draw from these concepts to help them build inner strength, take meaningful action, and let go of the fear or doubt that’s been holding them back. These aren’t just books — they’re tools for transformation.
