We were lucky to catch up with Tim Oakes recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tim, appreciate you joining us today. Over the course of your career, have you seen or experienced your field completely flip-flop or change course on something?
A big U-Turn for many of us was COVID-19 Pandemic. Something that changed the course for many businesses including Hot 8 Yoga, California’s premier hot yoga destination. Throughout the course of the pandemic we faced many different challenges. At first our big challenge was to keep our community connected through virtual and outdoor offerings. As we re-opened our studios, the challenges we faced shifted. While we were rebuilding our client community we were also rebuilding our entire team. Operationally it was a big U-Turn for us at Hot 8 Yoga. We also experienced a U-Turn with our clients, who prioritize wellness and mental health more than ever. This has allowed us to bring the the power of community and hot yoga practice even more people allowing us to open more studios. Since we re-opened 2021 we’ve more than doubled in size.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
My advice for managing a team is to trust them. Have open dialogue and communication and clear goals and expectations and give them freedom to execute as they see fit. High morale is tied to purpose. If your team feels they have purpose what they do and they see what role they play in the organization, then there will be high morale. Also a little praise and acknowledgment goes a long way.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Our expectation is excellence. We invest in extensive training to give our employees the tools what they need for success. Your employees are the ones interacting with the clients, so it’s important they represent the brand well. This is accomplished with training, support and purpose.
