Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tim Meegan Jr.. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tim, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
As a musician, success is often a very subjective term. My idea of success is different from others and vice versa. Last December I had a premonition that I wanted to record an album in Memphis. My band and I traveled to Memphis in February and spent a week recording, which will be our debut album as a band. If it’s the only time I ever do it, it was very special to me! We had such chemistry as a band and we’re excited to share the songs with people. We have yet to release any of the music because we want to make sure we have everything in order before we do. Our album is printing on vinyl as we speak. It’s by far the most meaningful thing that I’ve done musically because from the start we’ve accomplished all the goals that we have set forth. It will be up to the world, whether or not they like them; However, for us, it is the world!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started playing guitar around town after a couple years of lessons. It went from doing covers to writing my own music. You end up meeting people, other musicians, and eventually collaborating. That’s how I formed “Tim Meegan Jr. and the 105’s”
We’re not just a band, we became a family. We’re not playing music to just be a live jukebox of cover songs, we are trying to put the music that we wrote out to the world. It’s one thing to yourself out there as a cover artist, it’s another thing to put yourself out there with the music that you wrote.
I think what set us apart is that we refuse to be what anyone tells us we should be, instead, we just are being ourselves. We have been working on our debut album together and very excited to put that album out to the world. It’s been by far the most meaningful thing for us to see it through.
Tim Meegan Jr. & The 105’s are Memphis Recording Artists based out of Colorado Springs, CO. Their sound is an organic blend of folk, soul, rock, and alternative country. A group comprised of war veterans, firefighters, and blue collar grit; their lyrics speak the unapologetic truth about life and what they’ve learned. “This music is like black velvet and asphalt!” – Jaime Harmon
Their debut album “Race Against Time” was produced by Kevin Houston (Lucero, North Mississippi All-Stars); features Rick Steff (Lucero), Reba Wilson (U2, Johnny Cash), and Susan Marshall Powell (Lynyrd Skynyrd, Lenny Kravitz). Fans eagerly await the release of their new album, which is set to drop in 2024. Until then, they can be experienced live, playing their truth for all the world to hear.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I’ve always loved music. However, I never thought I would be playing it, let alone recording an album. I’m 40 years old now and I picked up the guitar at 36. I don’t care if I become famous but I wanted to leave something behind for my kids. I wanted to show them that you can chase any dream that you may have! I hope someday when I’m gone, they’ll pick up the album that I wrote, see that, and use it in their life! The name of our album” Race Against Time.”

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Simply put, I have to be myself. I have to feel genuine otherwise I feel like a fake. Many of times people have told me how I should write songs, how I should sound, and how I should do it. Often times I get told “have you ever tried to be like such and such.” They are fans of music, but they are not musicians at all. They know what music they like and that’s perfectly fine, but it doesn’t work for me. My response back is that I just have to be myself, it’s the only way for me. If I find success, then I will found success being myself.
