We recently connected with Tim Johnson and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tim thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you manage your own social media?
Yes, I manage all of our S.M. accounts.
I chose to take that angle to:
1) curb costs
2) to have better control of our image
My comfort level with social media is pretty high! So taking on the task of management for our accounts was a no-brainer. However, know your limitations. If you’re growth requires outsourcing, don’t hesitate. The amount of people one can reach is phenomenal. Study up on trends and how to create the right content, then add your own spin to it. Being original on S.M. is extremely important!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Tim and I, along with my business partner Chaka, own/operate Tru Masters Digital Entertainment.
We have a background in sound engineering and I continue to work as a voice over talent/producer from time to time. That’s why Tru Masters uses an EQ board for maximum sound quality! You’ll definitely hear the difference, from both MC and DJ! We offer well over a decade of experience, which really comes in handy for newly engaged couples. Not to mention the additional vendors/venues we work with!
We are extremely proud about our ability to provide an all out experience and reliablity for our customers. Each wedding is unique and we apporach it that way.
Tru Masters Digital Entertainment has a stellar reputation and that’s extremally important to us. It’s a reflection on how muc h #TRUFUN we have!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
For us, listening and being available to communicate with them whenever they need us. Because when that happens, the chances of us being on the same page with the planner and the venue management is unmistakeable.
It’s a major reason why our ratings are stellar!
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Chaka and I met working in the Winston Salem/Forsyth Co. School system. We were tasked with producing the morning announcements for/by the students and it blew up! We added music and fun segments that everyone really enjoyed.
One day, our Principal asked if we would provide music for an assembly and it was really awesome! Parents were picking up their Kids and saw how much fun we were having. That led to Chaka and I rocking the school Prom for a few years. That led to more school dances, with other schools. Which led to a wedding job, that was well recieved and here we are, almost 11 yrs later.
