We were lucky to catch up with Tikima Bowers recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tikima , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I would like to be remembered as someone who brought light to a lost and dying world. I would like to be remembered as an advocate and for my voice.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
In 2013, I moved from Charlotte, North Carolina back to my hometown in Yemassee, South Carolina. I had a 4 month old baby and hit rock bottom. I was laid off from a Fortune 500 company and had no money saved up so I packed my 2008 Volvo S40 with 1 suitcase filled with items for me and my son. When I got to South Carolina, I moved in with my mother and looked for work. 2 years I went without a decent job because I was considered overqualified in the area. That’s when I was introduced to network marketing. I went door to door selling Protect America Security Systems. One day, I came across a home and I met a guy who talked me to death for seemed like eternity. Long story short, he purchased a system from me and said I would be a great insurance agent. He had a friend he wanted to introduce me to and she would help me. He said he would pay for my course and licensing. So I connected with Mrs. Mary and completed her class. I wasn’t completely sold on the idea of becoming an insurance agent so I failed the test the first time. I was encouraged to take it again and this time I passed. Mrs. Mary then introduced me to her sister Mrs. Ida Jones. Mrs. Jones mentored me but I eventually went to work for State Farm for 2 years before they terminated me. I went back to Mrs. Jones and she took me under her wings and this is how I began my journey as an independent agent.
Tikima Bowers Agency was formed in 2019. We offer quality, comprehensive, and professional assistance along with facilitating clients every step through our method of setting up insurance coverage as it relates to life, commercial, business liability, home, auto, Medicare and healthcare plans.
Unlike other businesses whose primary interests are to increase their own revenues, we go above and beyond to provide personal attention and are equipped with the right tools, resources required to fulfill your specific needs and to make sure that we convert dreams into a reality.
I am a senior advocate among other things. Many seniors are intimidated when trying to understand Medicare options, understanding bills, or applying for programs and extra benefits they may not even be aware of.
I love what I do and I love adding value and putting clients interest first along with superb service.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think one of the key things that helped build my reputation is just being very good at what I do. Consistently providing quality experiences never goes unnoticed.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
My most effective strategy for growing my clientele is simple. Word of mouth. People trust the recommendations of their friends moreso so than advertising.
