We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiffiny Rose Allen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffiny Rose , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think the measure of true success is a feeling more than anything else. I think success looks different for everybody, and it can come in so many different shapes and forms.
You can be successful just by pouring yourself a cup of coffee in the morning, or by writing out your to-do list for the day or week. You can be successful by having hundreds of readers or just one, who found some value in your words and what you have had to say.
I believe success is a measure of fulfillment, not necessarily a number mark or a trend, or a list of bestsellers. I regard success as having left a meaningful impact, regardless of the size. In order to be successful, the most important step which I think a lot of us can agree on, is to start.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Tiffiny, aka Fin, I am a poet, author, editor, and the runner behind Dreams In Hiding Writing.
I have been writing since I could hold a pen pretty much, and in recent years I have been part of many different publications, anthologies, as well as curated my own anthology. I have a total of 8 books out right now with another collection of poems on the way.
I’ve recently gotten into creating zines which is so much fun, and I’m just enjoying the art of creating through words, always.
I’ve self-published most of my poetry collections, but my book At the Beginning of Yesterday went through Indie Earth Publishing, which was a different experience in book creation but a valuable one! My next collection will be coming out soon as well, through the same publisher and it’s called On the Ever-Lovely Morrow.
Most of my work has centered around the themes of dreams, spirituality, nature, and really just how I have processed life in all aspects. I like to describe all of my books as representing different chapters of my life.
My goal in writing and sharing my work is for others to know that they are not alone. I desire to uplift other artists and people because I truly believe that in supporting others we really are supporting ourselves too.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
It’s honestly hard to say what the most rewarding part of creativity and being a creative is for me…but I’ll say a few things that always make me feel like I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing is when I see after all the long hours and perilous times spent going over a draft or reworking a format or really just anything that makes creation feel like work, is when I see the final product.
When I hold in my hands the book that I had worked so tirelessly on and lost so much sleep over simply because I felt like I HAD to create it.
Another thing that really stands out for me is when I meet readers and book connoisseurs who get excited about my work. Being able to share my creativity and share my words and all these little fragments of my soul, just make me feel like I’ve done something pretty worthwhile.
Lastly, the process of creation itself is the real magic, and harboring and transmuting all that inspiration is a beautiful thing that I never take for granted.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I’ll put it simply, post what you want to post. I have never been someone who had a specific posting schedule or anything like that. Honestly maybe I should, but what has worked for me thus far is just being myself, posting what I feel like posting and being as kind as possible on social platforms.
I certainly don’t have the biggest following but I have found that being true to myself while navigating posts about my books or projects I’m working on have brought the right audience and right connections towards me.
I try not to overthink it, and just do what feels right!
