We were lucky to catch up with Tiffany “y-esha” Griffin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany “Y-esha”, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry?
Corporate America lacks authenticity when producing engaging tv programs that speak to the urban community. Most programs coming from bigger corporations are curated by someone who has never lived in an urban community. They can only depict the image of the culture based on 2nd hand information. Often times minorities and urban communities are portrayed in a negative light when we should embrace the traditions, educate others on our heritage, and bridge the gap of understanding amongst those with different backgrounds.

Tiffany “Y-esha”, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Atlanta based entrepreneur and TV/Film producer Tiffany Griffin is on a mission to provide more positive and uplifting programming to the black community. Today, she is doing exactly that as the owner and founder of The ACE Network. The platform will provide visibility to talented emerging artists and creatives, as well as content that counteracts the negative and stereotypical imagery often promoted on TV and social media.
“Our focus is to create something of impact where people truly have a voice that is not altered and manipulated, and where people can see diverse and authentic representations of black people and our interests,” Griffin said.
The ACE Network will feature music videos, documentaries, scripted and unscripted shows, short films, and movies covering genres from comedy and action to drama and sci-fi.
“When I was growing up, I watched shows like 106 & Park, Teen Summit, Rap City Tha Basement, TRL, Family Matters, Martin, Real World, Road Rules, and Dawson’s Creek,” she said. “We had networks like TGIF and UPN. So, I want to bring that vibe and sense of community from the 1990s and early 2000s into the present day for this generation.”
A native of St. Louis, Griffin started off as a recording artist in her hometown during her teenage years in the early 2000s. As her popularity increased, she would win an Artist of The Year award, land songs on local radio stations and even sign a small development deal with Jive Records. Other highlights of her career came when she teamed up with late St. Louis rap sensation, Huey, and later went on a music tour.
“I always wanted to be a rap superstar,” Griffin said. “But I decided to go to college at Missouri State University to learn the back end of things so I wouldn’t get screwed over in business. I ended up studying Electronic Media Production, where we worked in recording studios, on TV sets, learned how to run the cameras for a news station, and they taught us 3D animation. We also learned how to put the boards together and run your own system. That’s now what I initially wanted to do, but it ended up opening a whole new world for me.”

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn is that everything has to be in a perfect place to start building your business. I delayed my start so many times and placed blame on different factors such as not having enough staff, not having the proper equipment, wanting more support from peers. I learned that the hardest thing to do most times was to just start, but once I got started everything I needed started to fall in place. Your tribe will find you when you put the right work ethic and consistency into what you believe.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Here I am mid twenties pursuing a rap career. I moved from St. Louis to Atlanta determined to make a name for myself. I found myself in a bigger arena and some of my marketing strategies that I used in St. Louis which is a smaller market were not effective in Atlanta. I had to rethink my strategy on how I will get my name out there and brand myself. I attended a ton of networking events and observed from a distance and realized that if I have a service or product to offer it would assist with getting into the rooms that I needed to further my career. I picked up my camera and began my journey as a videographer. It started as me producing behind the scenes content for local and national recording artists to landing a video position for a prominent corporation in Atlanta.
I started to become in demand for content after working with several artists, podcasts, and promoters and businesses around the city . It was then that I knew it was time to create a platform to house the amazing content that me and my team produced. From there I started The ACE Network.
