We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiffany Wheeler a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
The origin of Hivehouse Co. unfolded during a time of unexpected challenges. As Austin faced the brutal winter storm Uri in 2021, which brought severe cold, burst pipes, and widespread power outages, I found our home becoming a refuge not only for my immediate family but also for neighbors seeking warmth and shelter. Amid the chaos of our crowded living room, the foundation for Hivehouse Co. was laid.
During these trying times, my daughter-in-law, Lexi Teifke, voiced her struggles with the clutter in her own home. As we discussed solutions, Lexi revealed her specific desire to declutter, organize, and redecorate her house, aiming to transform it into an Airbnb rental. This conversation sparked the creation of what would become known as “The Hive Method™.”
The Hive Method™ was designed not just to clean up spaces but to reimagine them. It integrated decluttering with strategic organization and thoughtful decoration to enhance both functionality and aesthetic appeal—a tailored approach for each client to maintain their spaces with ease. We recognized that while many services provided organization, none offered a holistic and adaptive method like ours.
Driven by a desire to instill order and serenity during chaotic times, the logic behind Hivehouse Co. was straightforward: people needed a service that not only organized their environments but also aligned with their personal lifestyles in a sustainable way. This gap in the market was our opportunity.
The excitement stemmed from offering more than a typical organizing service—we were providing a way to improve daily life through enhanced living spaces. Each space we transformed confirmed the effectiveness of The Hive Method™, converting initial doubts into solid endorsements as clients saw the benefits firsthand.
Thus, Hivehouse Co. became more than just a business; it symbolized a commitment to intentional living. It was about turning homes into sanctuaries where every element had a purpose or brought joy. Our journey from a mere idea to a thriving reality underscored the innovation that can emerge from necessity, showing that even under the toughest conditions, the comfort of a well-organized home could indeed flourish.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
From a young age, I was captivated by the world of decorating and fashion. As a teenager, my room wasn’t just a space; it was my personal canvas, a place where I could express my budding aesthetic sensibilities. This obsession went beyond mere interest; it was about creating an environment that reflected my personal style and ethos. My room was always impeccably tidy and organized—a trait that not only brought me peace but also served as a creative outlet.
This obsession with keeping my surroundings just so extended to how I dressed. Fashion for me was another form of decoration, a way to express myself and interact with the world visually. I was drawn to the details: how the textures and colors of my clothes could change perceptions and mood, much like the elements in a room. This deep connection between personal space and personal style was a clear indication of where my passions truly lay.
The skills I honed during those formative years—attention to detail, an eye for aesthetics, and a knack for organization—naturally paved the way for my future in interior design. Each project I take on at Hivehouse Co. is infused with the same passion and precision that I developed as a young teen meticulously arranging my room and choosing my outfits. My early experiences taught me that our environments profoundly influence our feelings and productivity, a principle that now forms the cornerstone of my professional philosophy.
These formative years weren’t just about pursuing interests; they were about discovering how much environment and attire influence well-being and confidence. This understanding is what I bring to my clients today—helping them create spaces that are not only functional and beautiful but also transformative, enhancing their everyday lives just as my teenage experiments enhanced mine.
Transition from Side Hustle to Full-Time:
Initially, organizing and redecorating were activities I engaged in during evenings, weekends, or during school holidays. My first paying project was helping my daughter-in-law, Lexi, declutter and prepare her home for listing as an Airbnb. This project helped Lexi transform her space and served as a prototype for what would eventually become The Hive Method™.
Word of mouth from successful early projects slowly brought more clients, allowing me to refine my methods and services. I reached a tipping point where the demand for my services began to encroach on my teaching responsibilities. I had to make a choice, and with a leap of faith, I decided to pursue Hivehouse Co. full-time.
Key Milestones:
First Major Project: Successfully transforming my daughter-in-law’s home into an Airbnb rental. This project proved the effectiveness of my approach and gave me the confidence to take on more clients.
Business Formalization: Registering Hivehouse Co. as an official business was a significant step that marked my transition from a casual side hustle to a serious entrepreneurial endeavor.
First Hire: As demand grew, I hired my first sub-contractor, which allowed me to expand my capacity and take on multiple projects simultaneously. This was crucial in scaling the business.
Development of The Hive Method™: Formalizing my approach into a replicable method that could be communicated and sold as a package to clients helped standardize and streamline my services, making the business more scalable.
