We were lucky to catch up with Tiffany Wei recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I believe that the majority of my projects have held significant meaning. As an illustrator, I’ve predominantly worked alone in my own space. However, in recent times, I’ve been actively engaging in collaborations with other creative professionals who specialize in various art forms. These collaborations have given me invaluable opportunities to work closely with a team and in the process, have enabled me to diversify and enhance my artistic practices. Reflecting on these collaborations, I cherish the experiences and eagerly anticipate engaging in more such ventures in the future.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hello! My name is Tiffany Wei! I am a Chinese-American interdisciplinary artist who is currently based in Los Angeles, California. While my creative work consists mostly of digital illustration, I also like to engage in more hands-on disciplines such as embroidery work and ceramics. My influences range from a myriad of subjects from elements found in nature, diverse fashion styles, science fiction, and much more. I strive to also create more wearable art by merging different art practices and conceptual ideas.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Personally, one of the most challenging aspects of being a creative is the perpetual need for inspiration and the inherent unpredictability of the creative process. Non creatives might view creativity as something that can be readily switched on and off, but in reality, the process is a multifaceted and unpredictable journey. I often encounter inspiration at the most unexpected moments while also having to deal with periods of creative blocks or self-doubt. In the end, each creative project represents a significant emotional investment.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative lies in the joy derived from the creative journey itself, regardless of the challenges faced in reaching the final product. It’s in the moments of learning something new, the necessity to problem-solve, and the opportunity to think outside the box. At the end of a project, I enjoy reflecting on the path taken to achieve the final result. My creative process is a means of personal growth, and I embrace the idea that by experimenting with new techniques and taking artistic risks, I can continually evolve. At the same time, I also hope that my art can resonate with people on both emotional and intellectual levels, leaving a lasting impact and igniting meaningful connections.
