We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiffany Underwood a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
When I think about the kindest thing anyone has ever done for me, my mind goes to a simple bag that ended up changing everything.
My journey into esthetics was personal from the start. I’d struggled with acne for a while and after receiving help from an esthetician; helping people feel good in their skin became something I felt called to do as well. I finally went to esthetics school, thinking I was entering this fresh, exciting chapter and then I was diagnosed with Hairy Cell Leukemia.
So there I was: learning about skin histology by day, sitting through doctor appointments and trying to wrap my head around chemotherapy by night. I kept going because I’m stubborn, and honestly, school gave me something to focus on besides being sick.
Right before I started treatment, my mother-in-law handed me a chemo bag she put together. Full of things she thought would help against side affects of chemo: a soft blanket, socks, snacks, lotions, antibacterial wipes, little comfort items. It was thoughtful in a way that hit me hard, because it made me feel cared for at a time when everything else felt completely out of control. I used every single thing in it.
Two weeks after my last treatment, my mom got diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer. I didn’t even hesitate I grabbed that same bag and gave it to her. I knew exactly how much those small things mattered, and I wanted her to have the same comfort I did.
That moment is what sparked the idea for our non-profit, Tiff Tiff’s Chemo Bags. It was just the two of us (my husband and I) realizing how much a simple act of kindness can matter when you’re sitting in a chemo chair. Now we put together bags filled with the things people don’t think about until they need them — the little things that help you feel human on the hardest days.
So, the kindest thing anyone ever did for me wasn’t just giving me a bag. It was showing me how powerful a small gesture can be. That one act helped me, helped my mom, and now it helps so many others going through something no one should ever go through alone. One act of kindness can cause a ripple effct.

Tiffany , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Tiffany Underwood, a licensed esthetician. My path into esthetics wasn’t glamorous. I struggled with acne, and it honestly wrecked my confidence. That feeling of wanting to hide or avoid certain lighting is something I’ll never forget, and it’s what pushed me toward this industry. I wanted to help people feel good in their skin in a way I didnt have.
While I was in esthetics school, life threw me a curveball — I was diagnosed with hairy cell leukemia. That experience changed everything about how I approach my work. I learned firsthand how stress, inflammation, and health impact the skin. I finished school between treatments because I was determined, stubborn, and honestly, I needed something to fight for. That journey made me a better esthetician and an even better human.
Today, I provide customized skincare treatments rooted in science, technology, and real-life understanding. I’m all about modern tools, results-driven products, and education that actually makes sense. I specialize in, pigmentation, age management, and overall skin confidence and I never take a one-size-fits-all approach. I look at the person as a whole: lifestyle, stress, triggers, habits, health… all of it. My clients know they’ll always get honesty, clarity, and a plan they can actually follow.
What sets me apart is simple: I’m relatable, kind, and blunt in a way that feels like someone who truly cares. I don’t gatekeep, and I don’t sugarcoat. My goal is always results that make people feel empowered, not overwhelmed.
I’m also the founder of Tiff Tiff’s Chemo Bags, a nonprofit that provides comfort bags to people going through cancer. That mission came from both my journey and my mom’s, and it’s the thing I’m most proud of in my career. A simple act of kindness from my mother-in-law turned into something that now helps so many others
Outside the treatment room, I’m just me: a cat-loving, candle-hoarding, GA-coast-hanging esthetician who could spend hours learning about innovation in this industry. I love staying on the cutting edge, learning what’s new, and finding ways to bring that knowledge back to my clients and colleagues.
What I want people to know about me is this: I care deeply about helping people feel better in their skin inside and out. My work is rooted in education, compassion, and the belief that great skin results don’t happen by accident; they happen through understanding, consistency, and a little bit of trust. When you feel good, you do good!
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy has always been word of mouth. My clients are my walking billboards. The best way to grow my business wasnt flashy ads or discounts. It’ was showing up fully for the person in front of you.
I focus on one client at a time. When I’m with someone, I’m 100% present. I am not thinking about the next appointment, not watching the clock. I listen, I assess, and I read the skin as I go. That way, I can cherry-pick the products and modalities that are going to give them the results they want.
Their skin reflects that care. And people can feel the energy you bring into the room. When someone leaves a session feeling seen, heard, and truly taken care of, they naturally tell their friends. That’s how you grow,by putting your attention where it matters most: the person in front of you.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Absolutely! I would choose this industry again. Honestly, if I had known esthetics existed when I first started college, I probably would have chosen it right away. I’ve always loved skin, how it functions, and how it changes as we age. Back then, it wasn’t a “popular” path, and I had never even heard of an esthetician, so I took a more traditional route.
That said, I’m really thankful for my background in biology and chemistry. It gave me a deep understanding of the skin at a scientific level and helps me see how everything from treatments, products, lifestyle affects it. Having that foundation makes me a better esthetician today, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
