Tiffany, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Talk to us about building your team? What was it like? What were some of the key challenges and what was your process like?
Great question. So, no my business didn’t have any employees, just friends & family willing to help out as needed. I’m currently in the “Building a team” phase. with Melanie Hancock (Director and Editor of “In the Mix with Mel” and Santrell Davis of Luminous Concepts (Videographer/Movie Editor of Trust Issues). With the new projects I’m working on such as a documentary for Platinum Crown Management, it’s extremely important to have an awesome team of professionals working alongside me. I can’t say I recruited them, being that we’re all working in the same industry we gravitated to each other. Most recently I was casted for a reality show called Minding My Business by Producer Lamarco Kinard-Baker. We’re currently in the pilot phase of the show but have filmed a few episodes! The theme of the show is to highlight new and upcoming entrepreneurs in different stages of their business! Be on the lookout for it!!!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Sure! I’m currently the CEO and Owner of Jacole’s Life Coaching where I specialize in providing coaching to young adults in the areas of entrepreneurship, education and goal setting. I also serve as the CEO and manager of Platinum Crown Management. As I previously mentioned, I’m very excited about officially merging forces with Luminous Concepts videography as Santrell’s manager. Honestly the pandemic led me into life coaching. While laid off from my job, I utilize my free time to get a certification in Life Coaching online. For years I’ve worked with the youth in my city by way of camps and workshops. As far as what got me in the industry of media and music, I would definitely have to say it came about very unexpectedly. I was asked by my first signed artist MK-23 to manage him and from there my management services extended to other artists in the city. Honestly, I think one of things that set me apart as a manager is the most obvious. I’m a woman working in a very male dominated industry. The other thing that sets my management apart are my credentials and my exclusive resources. The ability to provide coaching and consulting has benefited me to great lengths. It also has provided opportunities, growth and resolution to my clients and business partners. I’m most proud of being TRUSTED enough in the industry that others are willing to allow me to oversee their personal businesses and music careers. For any potential client I work with in the future, I want you to know that, I take my brands, clients, and affiliates serious. Therefore I move with solid professionalism and transparency. I understand the significance of being a Black woman and we’re not given second chances to make mistakes.
Any advice for managing a team?
This question is so important. My advice for anyone that’s managing a team and maintaining high morale….recognition, positive reinforcement, encouragement and team appreciation!!!! Who doesn’t like to be recognized and complimented every now and then?? How often have we worked for supervisors and corporate companies and felt under valued? As corny as it might sound, but a simple “OK I SEE YA, PUTTING IN WORK, GOOD JOB” goes a loooong way!! As someone that’s currently working a 9-5, I know this feeling all too well. When someone feels un-noticed and unappreciated, it effects the way they work for you. Show appreciation to your team for the small and big things!! Send a thank you text! Call out accomplishments in meetings and email blasts, the same way you would if they’ve made a mistake! Treat everyone to a pizza for employee appreciation! Make a small gift bag! Acknowledge them on social media. In a world where all types of jobs are plentiful, you want to obtain and maintain good trustworthy people for your team.
Have you ever had to pivot?
In June of this year, I decided to not renew the lease on the building I was renting for my business. The building I was renting was very multi-purposed. I used it to provide life coaching to my clients but I also rented it out to the general public for all types of events. This was a great business venture and side hustle but a substantial amount of my money was being used to pay the rent on the building. Currently I’m discussing with a few other entrepreneurs creating an investment group to purchase a commercial building to hold all our businesses. By doing this we can keep our hard earned money instead of paying it out to a landlord. It’s nothing wrong with pivoting and revamping your business as you see fit, especially if the outcome will improve your financial gain! I suggest evaluate your business model every 3 months to ensure you’re receiving the revenue you should on your business.
