We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiffany Riddering a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you scale up? What were the strategies, tactics, meaningful moments, twists/turns, obstacles, mistakes along the way? The world needs to hear more realistic, actionable stories about this critical part of the business building journey. Tell us your scaling up story – bring us along so we can understand what it was like making the decisions you had, implementing the strategies/tactics etc.
We started as a simple mobile bartending company. Offering bartending services with one satellite bar option. Since then we have upgraded our services in many ways. We now offer to satellite bar options, a horse, trailer, bar option, a camper, trailer, bar, option, a party pony, and a Photo Booth! We have made these adjustments along the way to improve our business and make us more appealing to customers who want more than just a bartender. We pride ourselves in making events an unique experience. We also want to be able to offer different services to broaden clientele. I’ve definitely learned that you have to spend some money to make some money to improve your business.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have been bartending since I was 19 years old. I started bartending at a local resort in the pool cabana. I bartender to put myself to college. Eventually moving up to Event Bartending at local wedding venues. I had a professional 8-5 career until after Covid, and having some children. I decided to open my own bartending services to give myself the flexibility. I needed to be able to stay home with my children during the day.
Now at 35 years old and a mom of two I found my passion for bartending. And I really enjoy bartending, but I also enjoy meeting new people and being able to experience their special day with them whether it be a wedding, corporate event., for party. I love getting feedback from customers of how wonderful my services are, and how unique my services are, that are offered.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I thought bartending would be something that would just get me through college till I could start my career. After college, I started my dream career in counseling and became a licensed therapist. I quickly learned that sitting behind a desk was not the job for me. I like to be out and engaging with people in a more fun environment, this is where I had made the decision to go back to Bartending, but on a different level, I decided to start my own bartending company. This was something that took a lot of research to understand the laws of Mobile Bartending, and how to run your own business.. I definitely spend a lot more time behind the computer than I ever thought I would, but I guess that goes with owning any business. I am proud today to say that I am the owner of her Mobile Bartending business
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I have learned in this business that word of mouth is everything. Making an experience unforgettable is often forgets people talking about us and referring us to other friends and family. I also learned that offering time and services is an important way to build relationships in the industry. You have to put in the time in the work to have a good business and not all time and work is paid for. We often participate in photo shoots or open houses for other venues. Participating in these types of events often results in us getting new bookings from clients we meet. You have to put yourself out in the world and get yourself the exposure..
