We were lucky to catch up with Tiffany Qualls recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tiffany thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
My first client found me on Facebook actually in a makeup underdog group. She was looking for a makeup artist for a professional photo shoot. I was so happy that she chose me. I was always practicing on myself but to finally be noticed made my day. I think I text and told everyone that I have a client other than a friend or family member.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am born and raised in Alabama but moved to Houston Texas almost 13 years ago. Being raised by my grandmother, who wore Fashion Fair makeup back then, I would play in her makeup. I loved seeing my Memaw wear her red lipstick too. LOL. I got into the beauty industry after my daddy told me that I have an eye for beauty and makeup and that I need to start putting myself out there to get noticed. It wasn’t until he passed away June 3,2019 that I decided to get serious about my craft. I started out doing makeup in my home and in 2021 after losing my Memaw, I added a lash line to my brand as well.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I like to do my makeup and use a pair of eyelashes from my line and post looks showcasing them on social media. I have beauty pages on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. I also post photos of the different women who have purchased eyelashes from me as well. It shows I have eyelashes that fit every day women. From natural to glamorous, we gotcha covered!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I lost my father in June 2019 so I never grieved for him. Then in April 2021, I loss my Memaw and my uncle and it hit me like a big wrecking ball in my world. It was then that I literally realized that I had hit rock bottom and this time I had to dust myself off and keep pushing. I didn’t have that same support system and it was really sink or swim. I had not only my sons but my grand children and I couldn’t just lay there defeated. Like Aaliyah said, I had to dust myself off and try again! My sons and grandchildren are my moTIFFation. I am a work in progress and I love it!
