We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiffany Perry a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Tiffany , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

My mission behind my business is to make kids and their families smile. From hospital visits to home visits it’s been nothing but success. I started my business in 2011 just as a hobby.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I’m the owner of Cap-city Characters RVA a company that provides entertainment with Mascots. We go out and bring fun, games, and entertainment to any party or event. We also visit area hospitals to put a smile on children’s faces who may be dealing with health issues. I enjoy seeing the smiles on others faces when we entertain them. I also use my mascots for Community events, parades, photoshoots and more. I started out with Hello Kitty for my daughter who at the time was turning 16 and loved Hello Kitty. One of my family members dress up with the Costume I had order online to surprise her. Her and all her friends were super excited and Their parents starting asking if I could provide services for their daughters. As time went on and we posted lots of pictures on the internet, others asked if I could do other characters such as Handy Mandy, Elmo, Spider-Man, Batman, and others.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

So as time went on after my daughter’s sweet 16 and we started posting pictures. Others reach out to me to ask if I could come and entertain them. We would go out and take pictures, play games, dance, sing and deliver special gifts to families in our neighborhood. As they would post pictures of themselves and our characters and share them, others started to follow and reach out to me.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?

At the beginning I had no intentions in making this a business. A older lady witness what I had done at her great neice birthday surprise and pulled me to the side and Said “ Young Lady God has a message. The message is that this will become a business for you. Not for the money but because you enjoy it! “ I didn’t understand at 1st until I kept going out for fun doing events and my friends would offer to pay any amount for me to come host a party or event.
