We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tiffany Ocasio. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tiffany below.
Tiffany, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents instilled in me the values of resilience, compassion, and a strong work ethic, which have been the bedrock of my career as a health and wellness coach. My mom, a dedicated caretaker, and my dad, an estimator and manager at a large printing company, were both shining examples of what it means to be committed to one’s craft and to serve others.
One story that comes to mind is when I was about 12 years old. I had a big school project due, and I was overwhelmed. My dad sat me down and helped me break the project into smaller tasks. He said, ‘Tiffany, life is a series of small steps. If you focus on taking one step at a time, you’ll eventually reach your destination.’ That lesson has stuck with me to this day. Whether I’m working with a mom who’s struggling to lose post-pregnancy weight or helping a client build a healthier relationship with food, I always encourage them to take it one step at a time. It’s not just about the end goal; it’s about the journey and the small victories along the way.
My mom’s compassion as a caretaker taught me the importance of empathy in my coaching practice. She had this incredible ability to make anyone feel seen and heard. I’ve carried that lesson into my work, always striving to create a safe and supportive space for my clients. It’s not just about sets and reps or calories; it’s about understanding the emotional and psychological aspects of well-being.
In essence, my parents taught me that success is not just about talent or knowledge; it’s about character, perseverance, and the ability to connect with and uplift others. These lessons have been the cornerstone of my career, helping me not just to achieve my goals but also to empower my clients to reach theirs.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
A year and a half ago, I was hit with a series of health challenges that tested me in ways I never expected. I was diagnosed with a condition that required ongoing treatment and lifestyle changes. During this time, I also experienced weight regain, which was emotionally taxing for me as a health coach.
The irony was hard to escape: here I was, a health and wellness expert, dealing with my own health issues and regaining weight. It made me question my credibility and led me to wonder how I could effectively coach others while facing my own struggles.
Rather than letting these doubts derail me, I chose to see this chapter as an invaluable learning experience. I took a break from work to focus on my health, consulting with healthcare professionals, adjusting my diet, and exploring new exercise regimens and holistic therapies.
While I’m still on the journey to manage the weight regain, this period has been incredibly enlightening. It’s deepened my understanding of the complexities of health and weight management, and it’s enriched my coaching practice in invaluable ways.
Now, when I meet clients who are dealing with their own health and weight challenges, I share this ongoing journey. It serves as a powerful reminder that setbacks are just setups for comebacks, and that the path to wellness is a marathon, not a sprint

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the toughest lessons I had to unlearn was the notion that taking time for myself was selfish or counterproductive to my career. Early on, I was so focused on building my coaching practice and helping my clients that I neglected my own well-being. I thought that if I wasn’t constantly working, I wasn’t succeeding.
The backstory to this mindset is a bit ironic. As a health coach, I preach the importance of self-care, balanced nutrition, and regular exercise. Yet, I found myself not practicing what I preached. I was always ‘too busy’ for a proper meal, skipped workouts, and even ignored signs of health issues, which eventually led to a series of challenges, including weight regain.
This neglect caught up with me, and I had to face the music. I realized that by not taking care of myself, I was doing a disservice to my clients and my practice. I couldn’t possibly empower others to prioritize their health if I wasn’t doing the same for myself.
Unlearning this misconception required a significant mindset shift. I had to understand that self-care isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. I scaled back my client load, started focusing on my own health journey, and made self-care a non-negotiable part of my routine.
This change has been transformative for both my personal life and my coaching practice. I’m still on my journey, especially when it comes to managing weight regain, but I’m doing it with a renewed sense of balance and self-compassion. I share this lesson with my clients to remind them that taking care of yourself isn’t selfish; it’s essential
