We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiffany Nakatani a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
I learned to pour into myself at the time, I was operating & managing my tea business “Love In A Cup” and Founder/operating another project called Boss Women Unite, where I created a platform for local Women owned businesses to showcase their products in the community by providing opportunities such as pop-ups, markets, TV interviews, and mall carts. In addition to holding, coordinating, and hosting empowerment events, educational courses, and coaching.
It was an honor to be in a position in my community to assist, connect, and empower others. Eventually, I began to neglect myself. I was pouring into others and becoming so burnt out at the end of the day, I had nothing left for me or my loved ones. I was frustrated, agitated, angry, just out of alignment and balance. Then everything shut down. My body, my mind, my spirit all of it. I found myself caught up and addicted to the hustle, bustle, and people pleasing that I strayed away and became so distant from myself. I was feeling guilty and ashamed for the lack of me-time and my explosions towards my family.
Change can be difficult to manage because it can cause disruption and discomfort. I resisted change because I was afraid of the unknown and losing control. I didn’t understand the purpose of the change, or I felt like I would lose something important. Especially when I worked so hard for it.
To help me manage resistance to change, it was important to communicate the purpose of the change and the benefits it would bring. That shift in perspective helped me to surrender.
As I shared in my previously, I have been challenged to grow. Due to that, I have decided to collaborate the two things I love to do most…Tea(Herbs) and coaching. Because of this redirection, it is important to notify you all of the change in process.
I would love for you all to continue with me on the journey, and I would still love to be there for you all my offering support and sisterhood in this new way.
I am excited and confident in this new direction and want to celebrate our successes and wins together along the way to help build momentum and enthusiasm for the change.
Tiffany, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
my experience, my intuitive gifts, education, practices, powered by the Divine and my ancestors that teas and herbal blends are essential to improving your over all well-being. In addition to self-love, communi-tea, accountability and support. Those can be some of the most powerful contributors to your body, mind and spirit healing as well.
Remember, we are ultimately responsible for our own growth, healing and well being. You are a whole being, not your disease, your struggles, your past or what ails you. Dealing with whatever is challenging you, changing your lifestyle doesn’t just require you changing your eating habits, quick fixes or doing it one time, or even drinking herbal teas or taking medicine. Make sure you are also taking care of “YOU”…all of you!
That YOU
P- Practice self-compassion
O- Open yourself to possibilities
U- Understand & accept yourself
R- Refocus your energy on caring for yourself to live your best life.
That encompasses more then just your physical health, but also your mental, emotional and spiritual health which can either facilitate your healing or hinder it….Just some food for thought.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
What I’ve learned about being in business and life in general is how important it is to take care of yourself. Your well-being. “Taking care of yourself is an essential part of taking care of others. The healthier the tree, the better the fruit it can bear and offer.”
just as a healthy tree produces better fruit, a person who takes care of their own well-being is better equipped to take care of others. In essence, I realized that prioritizing my own health and well-being strengthens my ability to contribute positively to the lives of those around me. Those I’m looking to serve.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn what my idea was on being productive and what is really important. it’s easy to get caught up in the constant motion of the external demands, yet I believe there’s a strength in taking a moment to go beyond the external and lead from your heart and soul. Finding the balance, that sweet spot within.
