Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tiffany Moorman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tiffany, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump back to the first dollar you earned as a creative? What can you share with us about how it happened?
The first dollar I made on Etsy for a piece of jewelry I made was one of my proudest moments. Would have been prouder if they hadn’t taken such a large percentage in fees. Lol. But selling my first book? That was truly the proudest moment. Even though the editing was atrocious. The story was still readable and most who read it enjoyed it. And that was even without advertising.
There’s just a special kind of feeling when someone purchases something you made. A piece of art; digital, physical, written, no matter the form, is a piece of that artist. It’s a part of them they share with the world. Something that most want you to share for free. So when someone is willing and eager to give it a monetary value it gives an added sense of accomplishment that goes beyond words.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
To say I’m a woman that wears many different hats would be putting it mildly. One thing that I am is an artist, that just takes on many different forms and industries in my world. I’m a commercial artist, graphics artist, graphics designer, author, violinist, jewelry designer, jewelry maker, crafter, crocheter, even a bit of a seamstress. What times them altogether is the love and darkness that goes into everything I create. Hence the main name behind it all, GothicMoms. Oh, I’m also a mother of five and just received my BA in Business.
I should be rich by now. Lol. Anyway, what sets me apart from most is I also have a knack for getting inside of my clients heads. Even with being thousands of miles away. I get a feel for what they both want and need and somehow come up with that perfect final product that they fall in love with. With my writing? I write books that I would want to read.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Stop thinking artists should work for free! LOL! People tend to love the work of authors; drawings, paintings, crafts, you name it. But, they always want something done for them for free. And yes, we love to do it, and some of us do it far more often than not. But, we can’t exactly quit our day job. The supplies alone are enough to make a normal person quit. Luckily, most artists aren’t normal. Including me.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I learned the hard way is that it doesn’t matter how good you are or how good your work is, if no one knows about it, they can’t buy it. It’s almost like cracking some sort of code.
