Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tiffany Meyer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Tiffany thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
In May 2019, my husband and I finally agreed, I could leave my corporate job. My boss was abusive, HR wasn’t helping, it was overall a bad situation, and I had just earned my certification in Functional Nutrition 8 months earlier. He knew I would be pursuing my Oncology Consultant certification next, but in the mean time, it was time to build my practice. Well, we all know what happened less than a year later. The pandemic hit.
More surprising for us — we were unexpectedly pregnant. This meant so, so many things to us. Explaining to our 17 year old, our 13 year old, and our 11 year old that another sibling was on the way. Limiting my client intake to keep stress levels down. And focusing on school as a priority, because I had already started, and I knew I had to finish. We opted for a birthing center, out of hospital, unmedicated birth. She came in December 2020, and she was (and is!) so beautiful. A completely unexpected surprise that has absolutely changed my life forever.
So, here I am, a freshly postpartum mom, getting ready to start an internship for my Oncology certification, with no childcare, and a husband working a full time job running his own chiropractic office. We’re both small business owners. We work. ALL the time. But I love it. And I love working WITH people. I love seeing people heal. I love teaching and guiding them into better health.
So how does one do that with an infant? I had to make some compromises. I took my practice entirely online. And unlike so many businesses we have seen go 100% remote, I had to cut Zoom calls, phone calls, literally no other communication than email. I was terrified my clients would need more. I was terrified new prospects wouldn’t want to work with me (and some didn’t). It was such a gamble, but no one wants to be on a call about chemotherapy protocols while a baby fusses in the background! It wasn’t fair to them, it wasn’t fair to me, and it certainly wasn’t fair to my daughter, so I stuck to my guns. Email only. I recorded videos covering my report of findings when my husband was able to take my daughter. It meant my lengthy process was even longer. But you know what? It WORKED. My practice is thriving. It’s not right for everyone, but those that work with me know I’m giving them 100% when it comes to the latest research, the most detailed health history, the BEST recommendations for health. Especially when they are fighting cancer. It was a huge risk. But it WORKS. And I’m so happy to continue to help people in such a unique field.
One day, I’m sure I’ll return to video conferencing, to phone calls, maybe even to in person appointments. But for now, the risk paid off.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
A little about me. I’m a corporate girl turned business owner, someone that helps teach people how to heal their bodies naturally. I earned my certification in foundational nutrition in 2018, and my oncology certification in 2021. I’ve seen MANY candidates enter into the oncology (cancer) realm, and honestly most don’t finish. It’s HARD. Cancer is a beast. And the reason why so many are drawn to it is the same reason I was. It’s personal.
My mom died in 2013 from an aggressive lymphoma. We didn’t have the understanding of cancer we do now. So many practitioners are still practicing just like they did then, but now I know better. Thanks to Jess Kelley and Dr. Nasha Winters, I have a deep understanding of the human body, the metabolic terrains, and even moreso, how to work with people to BALANCE their terrains, bringing healing. It’s remission, it’s the fight, it’s prevention. I’m about all of it. Most nutritionists I know choose other areas of focus. But to me, this is needed. We need people who have in depth training, who understand how to make chemotherapy MORE effective, with less side effects. How to help people reduce radiation side effects. How to limit the likeliness of cancer spread during biopsy or surgery (“tracking”). And I’m so glad I have this training. I’m also happy to work with those that want to avoid standard western care, looking at more alternative/holistic approaches. It’s truly integrative oncology. I can’t treat you. But I can help you support your body to be set up for the best outcomes possible.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Absolutely. There are less than 20 of us practicing worldwide. It’s SO needed.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
The best way to earn a reputation is to do your job. To not worry about what other people in your field are doing. To keep your head down, do right by your customers/clients/patients. Referrals will come. Help someone, and they will help you.
