We were lucky to catch up with Tiffany Malcolm recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
Back in 2018 when I started Sweet T’s my family and friends were my biggest cheerleaders and still are today. Most of my orders back then came from them and they would continuously share business cards, posts, and reviews with their friends or co-workers which was so helpful in growing my business. I am extremely grateful for my parents who motivated and guided me in creating my business. Especially since I started at a young age, they were very helpful in giving tips to stay organized and run the business. My boyfriend, Euwin, also plays a big part in helping me with my tasks and is so encouraging.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers?
I am a dessert loving one-woman show behind Sweet T’s Cakery. I started dancing when I was a little girl, and my love and passion for dance always lead me to believe I would become a dance teacher. Luckily I have accomplished that goal and was even more lucky to tack baker onto that as well. I have always been a creative soul for a long as I could remember. When I was younger it was all kinds of crafts and paintings. Now I have taken my creative passions into the kitchen and decided to make edible works for art. I make all kinds of custom desserts at Sweet T’s. My favorite creations are cakes, cupcakes, and royal icing cookies. I am committed to sharing my passion for beautifully crafted and delicious cakes and cookies. I have to say I am most proud of my overall growth. I have been working extremely hard to perfect my buttercream beauties and I am so elated with my accomplishments. I am also proud of the website I have recently launched. It is another platform I can use to share my work and provides more information to my customers along with more organization to my life for orders haha. (Sweettscakery.com)
How did you build your audience on social media?
I have to admit that it took me a moment to build a following on social media. In the beginning, I would just post photos of my work that week. Making one post every day of the week didn’t seem to be enough to catch viewers attention . Not only wasn’t I posting enough, but I wasn’t using all the features Instagram had to offer. When Instagram came out with reels, I wasn’t the most confident in making Reels but that is what got the most attention on my page so I had to get used to it. Now I have grown to love making Reels and using the popular audios is what really put it over the top.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
In today’s market popular usage of social media, like Instagram has been one of the best ways of growing my business. Along with clients tagging me on socials and attendees from their events reaching out to me for their own desserts as well.
