We were lucky to catch up with Tiffany Lui recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you have any thoughts about how to create a more inclusive workplace?
When I think about inclusivity in the wedding and events space, particularly in florals, I consider three key areas: my clients, my collaborators, and my team. My goal is to make each of these aspects as inclusive and diverse as possible.
For my clients, I never shy away from cultural traditions. I embrace them wholeheartedly. I love designing florals that honor and elevate meaningful traditions, and I take the time during consultations to understand what elements are important to each couple. Whether it’s incorporating a specific flower or color that holds cultural significance or designing arrangements that enhance a traditional ceremony, I ensure that every detail is intentional. Beyond that, I believe visibility is key, so I make a point to showcase these moments in my portfolio, on social media, and on my website. Representation matters, and I want couples to see themselves and know that they are not only welcomed but celebrated.
For my collaborators, planners, photographers, venues, and creative partners, I also prioritize diversity. When choosing vendors for editorial shoots, for example, I am intentional about supporting underrepresented businesses. Whether it’s renting a space from an LGBTQ+ couple of color or featuring diverse couples in styled shoots, I want to ensure that my work reflects a broad range of love stories and backgrounds. By being thoughtful about where I invest my time and money, I aim to create opportunities for more inclusive representation in the wedding industry.
For my team, I strive to foster an environment that is welcoming and supportive. My team consists of individuals at various stages in their floral careers. Some are fellow business owners, while others are just beginning their journey in florals. I meet them where they are, offer guidance, and create opportunities for them to grow, just as my own mentor once did for me. I believe that inclusivity isn’t just about who we work with but how we support and uplift others within the industry.
At every touchpoint of my business, I strive to create a space where people feel seen, valued, and celebrated. Whether it’s through the weddings I design, the creatives I collaborate with, or the team I nurture, my goal is to do my part in making the industry, and the world, a more inclusive and welcoming place.
Tiffany, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background? How did you get into the wedding floral industry? What drew you to this craft?
My name is Tiffany, and I’m a Seattle-based florist specializing in luxury, garden-inspired designs for weddings and events. My background is in visual design for digital products, so I’m well-versed in design principles like color theory, balance, hierarchy, movement, and composition. I’ve found that the same design skills I used in the digital world translate beautifully into florals, where I get to bring those principles to life in a tangible way.
What drew me into the wedding floral industry was the simple joy of working with my hands to create something real that people can experience firsthand. Although I’ve always loved design, there’s something deeply fulfilling about translating creativity into a physical form, especially for such an important occasion like a wedding. My love for flowers was the spark that ignited this journey, but it was my passion for weddings that truly pulled me in. Since I was a little girl, I’ve dreamt of my own wedding, and I’ve always adored everything about them: the romance, the beauty, and the emotion of celebrating love with the people who matter most.
I also have this natural love for hosting and creating spaces where people can connect and celebrate, which made floral design a perfect fit. Being able to design florals for someone’s wedding day is such a meaningful way to be part of their story. Flowers have always represented love to me. Growing up, my dad would give my mom flowers for every occasion, whether it was their anniversary, her birthday, or Mother’s Day. That small but thoughtful gesture left a lasting impression on me, and now I have the privilege of bringing that same sense of love and thoughtfulness to my clients’ weddings.
My path into florals really took off when I was a maid of honor for one of my best friends. She wanted to do her own flowers, and I, wanting her wedding to be beautiful and perfect, practiced constantly to make sure it looked right. That experience fueled my love for floral design, and here I am today, doing what I love, creating florals that make people feel joy, love, and connection.
What services do you provide, and what type of creative work do you specialize in?
I provide full-service floral design for weddings, which means I can create everything from arches and altar arrangements to centerpieces, bouquets, and any other floral elements needed to bring a wedding vision to life. For couples having a more intimate celebration, I offer an elopement package that includes a bouquet and boutonniere, as well as a separate minimum for micro weddings to accommodate smaller-scale events.
Beyond weddings, I also design florals for a variety of events, including corporate galas, fundraisers, brand activations, and other special gatherings. Flowers have the amazing power to transform a space, setting the tone and elevating the experience for guests, and I love creating arrangements that bring each event’s unique vision to life.
What problems do you solve for your clients, and what makes your approach unique?
Every couple is different. Some have a clear vision for their wedding day, while others have no idea where to start. Some may have just one color or design element in mind but aren’t sure how to bring everything together. No matter where they are in the process, I meet them where they are and help guide them in shaping their wedding vision. I ask thoughtful questions to understand their priorities, provide suggestions, and ensure their florals align with the overall feel of their day.
My approach is rooted in my background in user experience design. Just as I did in digital design, I start with research: getting to know my clients, understanding their preferences, and uncovering what’s most meaningful to them. I then translate that into visual concepts, creating proposals that help them envision their florals before the big day.
More than just providing beautiful flowers, I care deeply about my clients’ journey throughout the wedding planning process. I want it to feel seamless and enjoyable, where they feel comfortable asking questions, sharing what they love (or don’t love), and trusting me to bring their vision to life. Sometimes, it’s about highlighting a personal or cultural significance. Whether it’s a specific flower, a meaningful color, or a design inspired by an important moment in their relationship. My role is to listen, pick up on those details, and weave them into a floral design that feels uniquely theirs.
What are you most proud of?
I’m incredibly proud of being able to bring my clients’ visions to life. Seeing the flowers come together on their wedding day and witnessing their joy when they finally see everything in place is so rewarding. There’s nothing like hearing a couple say, ‘This is exactly what we envisioned,’ or seeing the smiles on their faces when I deliver their bouquets on the morning of their wedding. If they cry tears of joy, I probably will cry tears of joy. Creating those special moments for couples is something I cherish deeply and feel honored to do.
If I had to choose one moment I’m especially proud of, it would actually be a more emotional one. A bride I worked with had lost her mother, but she wanted to honor her in a meaningful way on her wedding day. We did a memorial basket, where guests could leave flowers on her mother’s seat during the ceremony. It was a simple design, but an incredibly powerful, intimate, beautiful way to acknowledge her presence in spirit. That moment reminded me how flowers aren’t just about aesthetics; they hold deep emotional significance. Whether it’s joy, remembrance, or celebration, flowers have the ability to express feelings in a way words sometimes can’t. Being able to create designs that bring meaning and sentiment to such an important day is something I am truly grateful for.
What do you want potential clients, followers, or fans to know about you and your work?
I want my clients to know that their flowers are designed with love and intention. Having dreamed about my own wedding for so long, I understand just how meaningful and personal this day is. I approach every wedding as if I were designing for myself. With the same high standards, attention to detail, and deep care for how everything comes together. My goal is not just to create beautiful florals, but to craft something that truly reflects each couple’s love story.
I also want couples to know that I am a deeply inclusive vendor. I wholeheartedly celebrate love in all its forms and feel especially honored to design for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ couples. My work is a safe and welcoming space, and I encourage couples to embrace their cultural traditions and ceremonies. Some of my favorite weddings have been those that incorporate meaningful traditions, because I know how much they mean, not just to the couple, but to their families as well. For example, in my own wedding, one of the most cherished moments was our tea ceremony. My parents and grandparents had looked forward to that moment my entire life, and seeing their joy as they poured tea was incredibly special. I want my clients to feel empowered to honor their own traditions in the same way. If they want to incorporate cultural elements into their wedding, I will not only celebrate that with them, but also help create floral designs that enhance and elevate those moments.
At the heart of my work is a love for people, for stories, and for the beauty of weddings in all their diversity. I want every couple to know that with me, they will always have a florist who truly listens, embraces their vision, and celebrates them exactly as they are.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My work is highly visual, so one of the first ways people connect with me is through my designs. Clients and planners can see my work and immediately get a sense of my style and whether it resonates with them. But beyond the visual aspect, I believe my soft skills have played a huge role in building my reputation in the market.
One of the most important things for me is communication. I make it a priority to be responsive and timely in my emails with planners and clients because I know how much trust that builds. When people feel heard and know they can rely on me, it creates a strong foundation for a smooth and enjoyable experience.
Beyond communication, execution on the wedding day is just as important. Planners and couples put a lot of faith in me, and I want them to feel completely at ease, knowing that what we discussed will come to life exactly as envisioned. Delivering on my promises, both creatively and logistically, ensures that my clients are happy and that planners feel confident recommending me in the future.
Reputation is built over time, and I’ve found that consistency, professionalism, and genuine care for my clients and collaborators have helped me establish a strong presence in the industry. I don’t just create beautiful flowers. I create a seamless and memorable experience for the people I work with, and that’s something I take a lot of pride in.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
A resource I wouldn’t say I wish I had known earlier but one I always encourage others to embrace is the value of learning from as many people as possible. Every florist I’ve worked with has taught me something new, whether it was a different design approach, a fresh way of problem-solving, or simply a unique perspective on the art of florals. Beyond the skills I gained, these experiences have allowed me to build meaningful connections within the industry.
I truly believe in community over competition, and I want other creatives to know that there are people out there who are open to sharing and collaborating. It can go beyond working with florist too. For example, working and talking with planners or photographers can give insight not just into design, but also into the business side of weddings. At the end of the day, collaboration is key in all forms, and the more we learn from one another, the stronger we all become, for ourselves and our clients!
