We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tiffany Loe. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tiffany below.
Tiffany, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Growing up my mom would always say “you are such a risk taker” and I never really understood that because I hate heights with a passion and would prefer to stay very far away from potential dangerous encounters. However, as I grow older I now understand what she meant by this. One of the largest risks I have ever taken was one week prior to Covid 19 coming to shut the entire world down.
One week prior to Covid I was taking one of the largest steps I had ever taken in my career, salon ownership. I was dotting I’s and crossing T’s to sign my very first 3 year lease on a commercial property. At this time I was a full time single working mom to a beautiful 2 year old boy. When I thought of the name to my salon it felt like a no brainer. Christian Michael Salon, the name of my first son at the time.
One week later my entire world came crashing down. I was hit with a HUGE wall, Covid 19. I was absolutely terrified, thinking “what does this mean?”, “how long will we be closed?”. The word scared was an understatement, however I chose to move forward in the mist of all the chaos.
The first year that my salon was ever opened we were closed for almost half of it. Sometimes when people ask me how I made it I truly don’t have an answer for them other than grace and God. I think that in times like these you find out what you are truly made of. It’s the time in my life where the rubber met the road and I had to make a choice to stay put and not drive the car or drive the car to my best ability and believe in my ability to do so.
Tiffany, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into the beauty industry at 19, I was a college student in LA, struggling in a theater program and I realized that the whole starving actress thing wasn’t for me, even though I loved the creative side of it. I knew I had a knack for makeup and hair, so I took a big leap and enrolled in cosmetology school. By 20, I was already behind the salon chair, kicking off my career.
Now, I run Christian Michael Hair Extensions. For me, it’s not just about running a business—it’s about making a real difference. My goal is always to help people, and I make sure that everything I do aligns with that mission.
Even though I’m busy managing the company, I still work behind the chair at least once a week. It keeps me grounded and gives me a firsthand understanding of what hairstylists are dealing with, which helps me support them better.
What sets Christian Michael Hair Extensions apart is that it’s all about being stylist-owned and operated. I’m passionate about giving hairstylists high-quality hair extensions and solid education that really addresses the challenges we face in the industry. It’s a brand built by stylists for stylists.
I’m incredibly proud of the education and quality we offer. Our hair extensions are a result of feedback and collaboration with other stylists, making sure we’re providing something truly useful. My brand is a reflection of my commitment to the beauty industry and my drive to help fellow hairstylists succeed.
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
Yes, I handle the manufacturing of my own products. My journey started out of frustration as a hairstylist. I was constantly dealing with poor-quality hair extensions and tried every brand out there, but the quality was always hit or miss. Losing clients over this inconsistency pushed me to take action, so I decided to manufacture my own hair extensions.
At the beginning, I had no clue what I was doing. The whole process was completely new to me. I had to spend a lot of money trying out different manufacturers until I finally found one that was both reliable and honest. It took a whole year to find the right fit.
Through this process, I learned some crucial lessons. It’s essential to have an attorney who understands the laws in both the U.S. and the country where you’re manufacturing if it’s overseas. I also realized the importance of delegating tasks and trusting others to handle certain aspects, so I can focus on what I’m truly good at—helping people.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been staying true to my core values and maintaining honesty. Keeping my mission at the forefront of my business has been crucial. I believe it’s incredibly important to remain authentic and true to who you are. For me, money doesn’t change who I am; it simply changes my bank account. I view money as a tool that allows me to help more people, and that’s how I measure success.
