Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tiffany Kuhwede. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Tiffany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I fought so hard to gain my recovery and my health. I finally had a job I thought I was supposed to have for a long time. I had a steady paycheck, mediocre health insurance and retirement, and a few days off each year. I started hosting a group for teenagers struggling with suicide and then a few months later decided to quit my job and become a full-time coach. I just knew it was something I had to do even though it was taking a risk of going back to unstable work. Every week I become more stable and again have a steady paycheck, days off, and health insurance. This time I also have an amazing team of humans I work with, enough money to pay my bills and enjoy life, and a pathway to continuous growth. I am happier in my career than I have been ever before and I know the risk has paid off more than I ever imagined it would.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a person in recovery from Substance Use Disorder, Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence, and Mental Health Disorders. I have also lost several people in my life to suicide. This is what lead me to what I do for work today. I am a Peer Recovery Coach with my own program for clients and a training program for other Coaches and Clinicians. I am very proud of the company I have been a part of creating, and for the amazing work I get to do with my clients. I went from being a bartender for 2o years to an executive member of a very large Grass Roots Organization. I also have been studying Energy Work and am a trainer of other energy workers and Peers.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In March of 2014 I was so weak I was unable to care for myself and my children. I had just gotten in trouble with the law and we were living with family because my ex and I had lost our home to our substance use. I could not lift my laundry basket and I was dying. One night I was about to die and knew if I did not change I would not be alive the following week. I decided in that moment to take my life back and have spent the last 9.5 years seeking health and recovery. Today I am healthy, in a safe relationship, and growing every day. I know if I am able to come back from where I was and do the things I have done, anybody had the power inside of themselves to do anything they set their mind to.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
We met at a bar called O’Malley’s. I know it sounds like a song, but it is the truth. She was already in recovery and I was very close to starting my recovery journey. We connected and stayed connected over social media and in person for the next few years. We started exchanging energy and then she invited me to help support teens struggling with suicide. We decided to start holding space for them a few times a month. When covid hit we moved our support online and the need for community grew during the times people were physically separated. She kept supporting me with education and opportunities to grow. We soon had the education and experience we needed to start hiring other coaches to join us and now we support a team of 34 people.
