We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tiffany Kim Stevens Film Director. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tiffany Kim Stevens below.
Hi Tiffany Kim Stevens, thanks for joining us today. Too often the media represents innovation as something magical that only high-flying tech billionaires and upstarts engage in – but the truth is almost every business owner has to regularly innovate in small and big ways in order for their businesses to survive and thrive. Can you share a story that highlights something innovative you’ve done over the course of your career?
As trivial as it might sound, the most profound step I’ve taken in my career is simply embarking upon it. Many dream of leading remarkable lives, yet true distinction requires embracing the extraordinary. For me, this journey manifests in the pursuit of becoming a film director—a path I consider inherently innovative.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Since emerging into this reality, my calling as a film director has felt predestined, as though I had already committed to this path before taking my first breath. While I could enumerate my accolades, preferred genres, and the narratives I aspire to craft, my true ambition lies in transporting audiences to realms and epochs inaccessible to them. Whether it’s exploring Planet 5555 or navigating a dystopian parallel timeline in Hong Kong, my aim is to offer escapades that defy conventional boundaries.
In a time when planetary survival seems precarious and the colonization of Mars a distant hope, I see my role as guiding viewers through uncharted territories of imagination and emotion. What distinguishes my perspective is my unique status as a citizen of four nations, which grants me a panoramic worldview rarely seen in my field. This expansive lens allows me to conceive and direct stories that resonate universally rather than being confined to regional interests.
Among my achievements, I take particular pride in my debut feature film, “Trigger Happy,” which I directed and successfully raised half a million of financing by the age of 27.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
In my creative journey, there exists no predefined roadmap, only a reliance on strategic planning and unwavering self-motivation. Passion serves as my guiding force; without actively engaging in and progressing toward artistic pursuits, I find myself physically and mentally depleted. The effort required to channel and sustain imagination is immense, demanding significant mental exertion.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
I strive to select department heads who are virtuosos in their respective fields—true superheroes of filmmaking. As a director, my aim is to assemble a team akin to the Avengers, where each member excels as the protagonist of their own cinematic narrative. Central to this collaboration is trust in their unique abilities, recognizing that their contributions surpass what I could achieve alone.
Transparency is paramount in my approach; I believe in sharing early concepts openly with my team. When I approach them, I present my vision, placing faith in their talents rather than expecting them to prove themselves to me. I deeply respect and draw inspiration from my team, understanding that their dedication to our shared vision makes managing them straightforward.
Expressing gratitude is fundamental to fostering morale. Working on a film is a dream, and despite challenges, it’s essential to remind ourselves regularly of the privilege of our profession.
