We recently connected with Tiffany & James Tomac and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tiffany & James thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
This business was a long sought out dream of mine (Tiffany) but needed its own way of fruiting. My husband James, supported me and aided in the creation of it but it came to mind with the vision of my Son, who passed back in ‘15 at 2 years old. He was the true definition of Orange. “Optimism, confidence, enthusiasm, warmth, and abundance”. It just seemed to go so well with my spirit animal, Bunny Rabbits. They have followed me around through all my successes and became a symbol of what we have accomplished at The Orange Rabbit.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My husband has no culinary background until now. He comes from management and corporate retail, which helps him in the training area of this business for our expansion. However, I come from 10+ years of culinary hospitality training. Being former military helped me long for travel and advancement.
Through my years, I’ve worked in various restaurants and resorts performing wedding catering, non disclosure dining experiences and for some local celebrities favorites. There has been a few times I’ve been internationally known, through online platforms to teach culinary classes.
We wanted nothing more than to be healthy all the way around the board and share that with our neighbors and future friends as well as family. Through The Orange Rabbit, we are creating awareness to delicious and simple but familiar.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
This is a great story! I’m a newly married & kind of new homeowner once the vision really bloomed of this life changing experience we call our business. I hit a wall though after planning as I was not quite sure how I could accomplish it without living a double life. Work as an Executive chef in Seattle can be a tolling task and my husband did not want me over worked.
We have been known as the family transition house, as I’m from the NE region of the country and continue to provide ways for my family to build and start over with a fair chance here in Washington. I grabbed everyone living here at the time and told them our plan and asked if they could split the mortgage fairly to help me transition my time and attention as well as finances towards the business.
We are blessed to have wonderful family who seen our vision as well as seeing theirs. Everyone has moved on and transitioned into their own homes and had kids while we have been able to be 100% dedicated to our blooming business.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
This sits close to home for us both. Coming from corporate America, we both have been told that we would only be bounded to this (working 9-5) as it takes too much to become a stand alone fixture (business). It almost killed our spirit before we even started but I stepped out and took the plunge with the help of family but my husband stayed corporate for one more year while running this business with me. He barely had days off but stayed steadfast with the help of family. Once day, he walked. He took my words of encouragement into consideration but most importantly, he believed in himself and his business. We are new people now because of this and the future we are walking towards. That is resilience at its finest if you’d ask me.
