We recently connected with Tiffany James and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name of my company is currently CAAB Customs, but it wasn’t always that. When I initally started my business 9 years ago, it was called Cute As A Button. The name was fitting at the time because I made accessories from buttons. My mom called some of my creations cute as a button and the name stuck. As the business evolved, I started not only making custom accessories but also custom apparel. Some of the phrases I added to my tees were a little risque’ and my mom made the statement, “it’s not that cute anymore”. After rebranding I kept the initials from Cute As A Button and changed the name to CAAB Customs.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi I’m Tiffany James, owner and creator of CAAB Customs. I am a teacher turned full-time entrepreneur. While teaching I started an apparel and accessories company called CAAB CUSTOMS. After teaching for 11 years, I stepped out on faith and dove head first into full-time entreperneurship.
CAAB started as an accessories only company under the name Cute As A Button. Today it is an apparel and accessories company that provides people with thought provoking pieces that are always head turners. Our most popular product is our graphic tees. We describe our products as Culurally Ratchet, because each piece may enlighten you on some cultural ish or may be down right ratchet. CAAB allows my customers the freedom to say what they’re thinking. One thing I am most proud of since starting this company is, even though my products can be a bit risque’, the amount of love and support that has been shown to my brand. For potential customers and followers, know that CAAB is a brand full of expression and it allows our customers to express ones self without even saying a word.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When I started my Instagram and Tiktok pages, I had no idea what I was doing. I would just post and go. Instagram along with all social media platforms are ever changing, I realized I needed to learn what I wanted my audience to get from following me. I went directly to youtube university to learn more about both platforms when it came to business pages. To be honest I’m still learning.
I started studying my page, seeing what worked and what didn’t. What times worked best for engagment. Making sure to engage with my followers, I check my social media platforms throughout the day.
I hate saying this but successfully running your social media accounts is another job. You have to clock in throughout the day and at times take breaks.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
Keeping in touch with your audience is vital. Most of our conections are made via email and text. At times we may send out sales via dm on Instagram.
