We recently connected with Tiffany Henderson and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
I originally gained my experience in social media marketing when I was pushed out of my comfort zone in my first hair salon business. I had patterned with someone the first 6 months to open the business, then problems arose. I chose to keep running it on my own, but knew I wanted to become a better business owner and seek knowledge. I started doing all the free business training I could find, and especially in social media marketing. Next, I started investing in my education. I went beyond my comfort zone and stepped in front of the camera to grow my business through social media marketing. I went from zero clientele and taking walk-ins (first month $1,200 income total) to growing my clientele to about 200 ($5-$6k months) within the first year of business. I worked up to $7-$8k months with an assistant and employee. I went beyond that and joined the local community non-profit organization and volunteered to promote the local events and run the social media for them as well. I eventually became comfortable in front of the camera. At year 5 I closed that hair salon business down, and it was time to really figure out what I wanted to do next with my life. God told me to “Do it All” and I started creating multiple social media pages to get comfortable with doing research on different industries. I got efficient with multi-tasking, and as I learned more I put more on my plate. God told me to open my social media marketing business last May. I got the social media pages up and running and went to my first events doing media. In August of 2023 I made it official. I worked with friends to network and gain more experience first. I learned photography with a real camera, which I went back to using a cell phone because I wanted to focus on teaching business owners how to promote their business on their own. I created an online platform to sell classes for small business owners to learn more about social media. I sat down and got serious with my pricing and made a full website for customers to purchase digital products that I can edit for their social media accounts. I created my own clothing line and then recently re-branded and re-launched it. I focused on writing a book about how I started to heal and spiritually grow, which allowed me to focus on all of these things I’ve accomplished. I sat down and focused and was very patient with the process. Meanwhile, I moved across country from a small town in Missouri to Las Vegas, Nevada. God has slowly been connecting the dots for me to get to where He wants me to be. And I can look back and say I’m thankful for this slow endurance of a process. I look forward to fully blooming in my business and excelling forward to touch others lives to show them they can reach their dreams as well and more that their future self is waiting on them to attain.
Tiffany, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
(I touched on this one in the previous discussion answer.)
I come from a very small town and I always had the feeling of exploring the world. After high school I joined the Navy and traveled around the world and fell in love with traveling and adventure! At first I settled down in the family life and focused on educating myself then eventually opening my first business at year 6 of being a hair stylist. I always told myself I would have to have been doing hair for 10 years before opening my own business, but the situation arose for it to happen when I least expected. I went in to completely run and operate the business on my own. So although I felt unprepared for it, those uncomfortable moments of pushing past my comfort zone really helped me to become unstoppable and fearless in business. I got in front of the camera and just by doing and practicing social media marketing, I became comfortable at it and fell in love with it. Eventually I opened up my social media marketing business. What sets me apart is that I love doing photography, videography, and event media, but I am willing to be on both sides of the camera as a producer. It’s important to know how to visualize all angles and points of view to make great content.
My main message that I have for business owners/followers is to step into the unknown, because that is where you will grow!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Last summer I put my full faith into my business and I had a stranger contact me out of nowhere to do event media for them. He’s a Street Outlaws racer along side his father. His media personnel was unable to attend so I got flown out to film for him for the weekend. I had never been in that side of the track, but I was willing to get outside my comfort zone because that is what my job was. Especially being a female and walking around a huge race track with thousands of fans, I stuck to the game plan to focus. This was at a live filming for tv so I walked up on the race track with them to film as well. It ended up being one of the coolest experiences I could have asked for because I love race cars! Of course I had to focus my attention on making quality work for his social media.
I was completely outside of my comfort zone, but I learned how to breath and excel there.
Have you ever had to pivot?
When I first started out I was mainly networking and gaining experience from different industries: hair, racing, car shows, festivals, and music industries. I knew that I had to first take myself serious before anyone else would. So yes there was a completely uncomfortable pivoting point where I set my prices. I had 6 years of experience at this time and business training and properly set my pricing. I had uncomfortable conversations and even got told no many times. Immediately following that is when I landed my first job. Set the price and the right clientele will be willing to pay because they will see your value.
