We were lucky to catch up with Tiffany Garrett recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tiffany thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
My hero is my mom Linda Brooks Jones. She owns Grey Gables Bed and Breakfast in Rugby Tn. She has played a major role in my success in my business today. It has been thru watching her dedication to her own business that has inspired and encouraged me to work hard at the family’s business I now own and run. She has always shown great hospitality and a genuine love for serving people in her business. I have seen her work many long hours just to make sure that her guests felt welcomed and left her establishment satisfied with their experience there. She has had very little at times and has struggled to make ends meet, but she has continued to be dedicated to what she felt God had given her. She is now 86 years old and still serves both dinner and breakfast to her guests and pretty much does it on her own. We come from a long line of dedicated workers who have took pride in what they did and worked hard for what they had.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I own my family’s country store that was built back in the early 1920’s It is now over a 100 years old. I have antiques and different other items I sell, but the main thing I am known for is my fried bolongna sandwhiches ,cheeseburgers and homemade fries. I am still serving the local community with food and a wholesome atmosphere of memories of yesteryear. I am most proud of the growth of the store but also I am proud of what myself and my staff do to create an atmosphere where people feel welcome and as if they are family.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Two things come to mind I have had to learn/ experienced thru out my journey as a small business owner. One being my faith walk with funds. I first started with really no upfront money and there was times I wouldnt have enough money at the beginning of a work day to pay the electric bill that was due but I still showed up and left the rest to God. It never failed that He would always provide exactly what I needed for that day. I also had to put many long hours in. There was numerous nights, to many to count, that I would be up by myself making fried pies for the next day. sometimes til midnight or later. That determination to keep this gem going has taught me where my strength came from and truly where my trust is, and that is my savior.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I think I have already shared above two stories but I think if a person starting a business has a vision and is willing to sacrifice for a little bit ,that with hard work and consistency you will begin to see the vision you had come to pass with success. I have always said my definition of success doesn’t look like others. So figure out what success looks like to you.
