We recently connected with Tiffany Franklin and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
T’Monique Naturals is a product based company that believes in the use of natural and organic hair products. After years of trial and error of using other store bought products, we decided to curate our own.
During our research we noticed that most products contain harmful chemicals such as phthalates, silicones, sulfates and parabens that are known as xenoestrogens. These ingredients have been found to be linked to breast cancer, hormonal imbalance, birth defects and early onset puberty. Sulfates strip the hair of natural oils, can damage the hair follicles and can lead to hair loss.
We have worked hard to create a product that abides by the guidelines of being organic with no harmful chemicals.
We look forward to naturally moisturizing, cleansing, and strengthening coils around the world!
My mission was created with the knowledge I have as a Registered Nurse. I begin my natural journey while in nursing school. After finding out about the harmful chemicals in most relaxers and hair products I started looking closely and paying attention to what I put in my hair.
Alot of chemicals have been linked to different types of cancers. I wanted to create a line of hair products that are non toxic and encourage women around the world to rock their natural hair without the worries of using products that are harmfutl to thier health.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Growing up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana your life consists of three things for sure, great spicy food, laughter and music wrapped in priceless memories you cherish for eternity. As a child, I enjoyed helping others especially my older brother. Born with a natural flavor of style and pizzazz everything was perfect except my disrespectful mane. At the tender age of 10, my mother decided she would no longer endure the hours of maintenance and straighten my kinky coils using what most call “creamy crack” a relaxer. After high school, I pursue my dream of becoming a certified cosmetologist and helping hundreds of women celebrate their natural beauty by not altering their crowns. Shortly after working in the field of cosmetology I got the itch to accomplish another dream. As a natural helper and cheerleader to others, I wanted to become a Registered Nurse. I attend Southern University and A& M College to acquire my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Remaining true to my calling, I needed to help people get healthy and nursing was the perfect fix.
As a Registered Nurse, I see the good and the bad of life’s decisions. I am grounded in my belief that anything is possible if you keep moving toward your goal. Life is a melody that is written note by note, day by day until it is an original sympathy of joys and sorrows. My life mantra is go hard or go home. My faith guides my decisions to never give up regardless to what it “looks like”. In 2014, my transition to my natural hair was complete. The stones called life are the stones I used to build my foundation for T Monique Naturals, my nursing degree, and my cosmetology license. My legacy is to create generational change for my family and others. I believe in people and want to see everyone become successful in their own way. As a Wife, a Mother, an Aunt, and a friend I am Tiffany Monique of T Monique Naturals.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
I have a website and I also sell on Amazon. The pros of having a website is you have all the information that is needed to keep in touch with your customers. The cons on Amazon is you are only given limited information on your customers(first name, city and state)
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
My most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been social media. .Posting daily and just showing up has helped me create a name for my brand. Also just being myself. Outside of social media participating in pop up shops, hair shows and business events has helped me gain clientele
