We recently connected with Tiffany Enowski and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later?
I’ve had a big interest in taking photos and creating videos from a young age (around 11 or 12), that interest grew into me getting a job right when I graduated high school and the first thing I did was save up to buy a camera. I started my business right when I bought one. This was in 2013. I had the mindset for YEARS that I wasn’t going to be able to go full-time with my business and that it was always only going to have to be a side job/hobby. I thought I was going to have to just stick to a full-time job that I wasn’t passionate about because that is what everyone around me was doing and that is what they push in high school, college, etc. I didn’t realize until I started seeing other, non-local photographers on the internet doing their business full time and being super successful at it (like making over 6 figures). I started thinking, if they can go full-time, why can’t I? So that is what I started working towards. I am now working full-time for myself. I think working on your mindset is a HUGE factor in starting and running a business. This includes money blocks. One reason I thought I couldn’t go full-time was because I was stuck in a cheapskate mindset thinking people would only pay me a couple hundred dollars for a session when in reality there are so many people willing to pay thousands for a photo/video session. That is one big thing that held me back from not going full-time sooner. I do wish I had realized sooner that it was possible to go full-time and make a living doing photography. I could have grown my business a lot sooner and be even further along than I am now. But that’s ok, I’m super proud of where my business is at now and I can’t wait to see how it grows from here!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started my photography business right out of high school and for the next several years, I did a mixture of traditional photography sessions like seniors, family sessions, weddings, etc. In 2021, I really found my passion for working with other business owners/entrepreneurs. I dove into personal branding sessions and pivoted my whole business to specialize in that. I currently offer personal branding photography and videography for women entrepreneurs. That is my main passion. Even though I’m based in Missouri, I travel nationwide for photoshoots as well because my other biggest passion is traveling, so I love it when I get the opportunity to do both together!
One of my biggest goals is to make my clients feel comfortable during their photoshoot. I know it can be scary and intimidating getting in front of the camera, but I really try my best to make everyone feel comfortable, confident, and prepared for their shoot! I just love to see the difference in the social media and website of clients after their brand session. It really makes them look even more professional and helps them show up more confident as the face of their business!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My personal mission is to follow my passions, dreams, and goals. I wish everyone was able to follow their passion in life. This is one huge reason I love personal branding. I get to talk to other entrepreneurs doing what they are passionate about and working towards their dream careers. I know not everyone is in a situation where they can just go for exactly what they want, but I eventually would love to be able to be a source of motivation and encouragement for people to go for what they want in life and stop being in a mindset they can’t do it for one excuse or another. I would love to start a podcast around this subject.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I realized how impactful a good business coach is. I have bought cheaper courses related to branding photography and they were good, but nothing like investing in a business coach who can work with you directly on how to run your business, give you feedback on what you are currently doing or ideas you have. I didn’t realize until very recently that all kinds of businesses hire business coaches. I thought only people who were struggling hired them. I have found out that even business coaches have business coaches and there is nothing to be embarrassed about. Anyone I have ever talked to who has hired a business coach or joined a mastermind has only had GREAT things to say about it. No, they aren’t cheap, but they are 100% worth it.
Another resource is finding people on YouTube or other social media that is doing what you want to be doing. Watching their videos and following their journey can be really inspiring to help you kick yourself into gear!
