We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiffany Drury a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany, appreciate you joining us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I feel like most of the time people look at business owners and think they have it so simple or easy because they can “make their own schedule” or “make the rules”. but in reality, being a business owner is the furthest thing from simple or easy and this is because you don’t just wear just one hat of a specific job tile, you wear ALL the hats. For me specifically these “hats” consist of being the Esthetician within the treatment room, the marketing team- so making sure to keep social media account active, scheduling appointments, making sure to do inventory and ordering when we are out or running low on things.
But for me, I am truly happier as a solo esthetician being a business owner and wearing all the hats. This is because I have been able to niche down into results driven skincare – building my own brand, work with the brands I desire and that align within myself, and truly make an impact on not only my clients life but the community. In the esthetics field if you are working for someone, you’re following their protocols, using the skincare lines they chose, and may even be restricted on the services you’re able to provide to your clients.
I truly believe I have been able to grow into the esthetician I am today because I made that decision to become by own boss so I didn’t have any restorations holding me back.

Tiffany, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an esthetician with over 7 years of experience. I got into this field because I have always been intrigued by the skin. I always joke and say it was the Dr. Pimple Popper show who really go me into looking at being an esthetician because the show was more then just hoping a pimple. I would take notes, and look into the different skin condition those on the show had because at the end of the day our skin is our largest organ so we need to take care of it.
When I first graduated school, I knew there were many different outlets I could take within the field. But I always knew I wanted to be my own boss. That was always my goal. Once graduated, I started my first job, I was at a day spa, where I would be doing your standard waxing, and relaxation facials, and selling retail. But I always knew I wanted more. I wanted to do more than just a relaxation facial, I wanted to make a difference, give people results to help them gain their confidence back. One thing we can’t deny is your skin, your face is the first thing people see s its very easy for someone to feel self-conscious about it and I wanted to help them feel and look their best!
I started Skin Works by Tiffany on February 1, 2020. And thanks to loyal clients who refer their friends and family to me, and also my own family and friends support I have been able to grow into what I have always dreamed of.
Now in 2025, I am a results driven esthetician, primarily doing treatments for Acne, Anti-Aging. I also offer treatments that help improve the scaring and pigmentation that comes after acne. I have also recently brought in the popular head spa treatment – this is because I have had so many clients have a concern/ complaint about their scalp being itchy, oily, dry. So the head spa treatment is able to use specific products for each concern to help treat the scalp because our scalp is our skin as well.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
For me, it has been word of mouth and Facebook specifically.
When you give a client your best each time, and build a trusting relationship with them, they are more likely to send their friends and family to you. I do sell retail because when it comes to skincare, to get optimal results you will want to have skincare at home. This is because you’ll be doing that skincare routine everyday vs coming to see me every 4 weeks. I always tell my clients this and that honesty is always greatly appreciated. I’ve always believed in being honest and ethical when working with my clients so I am able to build a trusting foundation with them.
When it comes to social media, you just have to show up and consistent. We are in such a technological world so a big portion of new clients do come from social medias, but the most common one being Facebook. And this is usually because they either seen a post that a friend had shared from the Skin Works business page.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I keep in touch with clients through social media, but also through email marketing.
The social media part is more simple to me specifically, as I make sure to make posts and try to do them daily if not every other day.
The more complex would be the emails. This is because you have to curate them from scratch usually, incorporate both images and text, and keep the ideas flowing. I could definitely get better at being more consistent with them but I try to send a few out a month with tips, new services, or any promotions that may be going on. If clients want to be the first to know something or aren’t on social media, signing up for email marketing is the best choice for them.
