We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiffany Diorio a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany, thanks for joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
In Your Dreams Sleepovers believes that all women are powerful, and unique, and while we can do it all, we shouldn’t have to! We have all heard the saying “It takes a village” Well, at In Your Dreams Sleepovers, we are on a mission to find our village by seeking out the best local women owned businesses that align with the services we provide. We want to support one another, uplift one another, and help each other grow and thrive in our market. We aspire to create a network of talented bosses who are skillfully balancing life, family and business in a way only women can do, because these are our people, and this is our legacy!
Tiffany, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have dreamed of being a party/wedding planner since the very first party I planned. In 2009, my husband and I moved from Las Vegas to Florida to be closer to his family. I previously worked in the restaurant industry as a bartender, then corporate trainer, where I gained experience in customer service and event planning.
After having my first daughter, I switched careers and moved into the legal field so I could be home for my daughter at night, while my husband was home with her during the day. I eventually worked my way up to being a Billing Specialist at a nationwide law firm. Now I have the flexibility of being able to work from home and be home for my girls more, and while I love the company I work for, and the organizational aspect of my “day” job, I never lost the dream to be an event planner.
In 2020, during a world pandemic, my husband lost his job in the restaurant industry and decided to follow his dream and become a firefighter. His strength gave me the courage to chase my own dreams. While still maintaining my full-time job, I convinced three of my amazingly talented friends to help me create a business that would allow busy parents to create magical moments and memories for their children, without all the hassle and stress that comes along with it, because we know firsthand, that as parents, we are already balancing so much!
My business partners have since moved on, leaving me as the sole owner of the company, but I am thrilled to have had the chance to collaborate with such incredible women who have shown me my full potential and passion. I am excited to now create the opportunity to partner with, and collaborate with, some of the best businesses in the Tampa Bay area, and make our client’s party dreams come true!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The main lesson I have learned from this journey is that while education is incredibly valuable and important, it is not defining of who we can become and the potential we have. I grew up fast and took life as it came, and I did not have the chance to go to college and get a degree when I was younger. I have always let the fact that I did not have the same education as my peers, make me feel like I wasn’t qualified. However, after starting this business with three other women that I look up to, who not only have the education, but also successful and challenging careers, who looked to me for guidance and direction in the running on this company; I realized that I was capable of far more than I allowed myself to believe initially. I am so thankful to each one of them, for seeing in me, what I never dared to see in myself, until now.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Starting out as a four-person owned business and slowly becoming the sole owner, was not what I initially had planned for this business, but I have learned in life, these things happen for a reason. I don’t think I ever would have started this business on my own, and while balancing the increasing responsibilities was difficult at first, I have adjusted, and now enjoy having full creative control over the business.
