We were lucky to catch up with Tiffany Days recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about your team building process? How did you recruit and train your team and knowing what you know now would you have done anything differently?
When I launched The Communal Group it was me, God, and a spiral notebook. Funny thing is I recently found that notebook prior to this interview and it has really given me insight in how far I’ve come. From being at a kitchen table to growing into a team of ten has been quite the journey. You realize recruiting is more than just employees filling a role or space, but this is about aligning with like-minded individuals who may be at a different place in their dream’s journey so they’re willing to help you build yours.
When I met the first few members of my team, it was like making friends. At that time I wasn’t necessarily recruiting but instead I was meeting bright freelancers (in most cases) that wouldn’t mind a little stability while still maintaining some flexibility so it worked. We’d happy hour and I’d talk about the concept and the vision for what I was doing. I’d be very honest about the different stages my company was in, so they’d be able to make an informed decision.
If I were starting over again I wouldn’t change my recruitment style but I would ensure that SOPs and guidelines are in place prior to hiring. This way things are more streamlined as new members join the team.
Tiffany , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I operate a boutique creative agency that specializes in multifamily and small business marketing. Based out of Atlanta our firm serves in the Southeast to include South Florida, Tennessee, the Carolinas, and growing. We are a safe place for professionals looking to jump start their career in the apartment industry as we also provide high caliber staffing solutions to apartment operators in the event of staffing shortages.
We are most proud of being a minority and female owned agency as often times you do not see this within the multifamily industry. Our unique approach to recruitment, resident engagement, and marketing has streamlined the way apartment communities and small businesses take care of their clients.
We are also proud of the sense of community our work develops. Each month our agency hosts upwards of fifty activations that bring people together in their buildings. What sets us apart is our commitment to representing our clients at an optimum level as we understand the positve impact that retention can make on a business.
As we continue to grow we are dedicated to staying focused on helping people find careers in the industry and building the deepest sense of belonging for the residents we serve.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Maintaining a high moral and positive culture is something very dear to me and derives from the core of who I am. (Some would say it’s because I’m a Cancer but I don’t follow the signs so I wouldn’t know…Ha!)
It is important to me that my team feels like a part of something bigger and that they are confident in the company taking care of them as they have taken care of it.
You must carve out the time to show that appreciation. In these times it is important that people feel secure and appreciated.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe what’s contributed to building my reputation has been consistency and professionalism. We have created a certain standard of what’s to be expected and you clients appreciate the commitment to optimize their resources for the best service. We do what we do from a place of truly caring about the clients first and in turn we see loyalty and consistency from our clients.
