Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tiffany Coyle. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Tiffany, thanks for joining us today. How did you scale up? What were the strategies, tactics, meaningful moments, twists/turns, obstacles, mistakes along the way? The world needs to hear more realistic, actionable stories about this critical part of the business building journey. Tell us your scaling up story – bring us along so we can understand what it was like making the decisions you had, implementing the strategies/tactics etc.
When we started the marketing agency, we decided to make customer service our top priority. So when we get a new client, we would go above and beyond the client’s expectations; we would offer short-term turnarounds, last-minute projects, and nearly 24/7 support. Instead of solely focusing on delivering the service our client was looking for, we really got to know them, built relationships with them, and really understood their overall goals. We figured out how to grow with our clients instead of spending all of our time and energy acquiring a ton of new clients.
When we started, we offered very few marketing services, but as time passed and we felt like we could deliver fantastic results on these services, we added additional services to become the full-service agency we are today.
An example of growing with our clients: We were able to 10x a monthly contract for a client we started working with in 2019 within two years. This client started out as a social media marketing client with a $1,500 budget, and we became their full-service marketing team with a $15,000 budget. We’re very fortunate to still work with this client today.
I truly believe we’ve grown the way we have because of the relationships we build with our clients. We also work extremely well with other teams our clients work with, so we act as an extension of their marketing team and even recommend other service providers to help them reach their goals. Our first client from 2017 is still with us today, and we continue to help them grow every year!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started my entrepreneurial journey in 2017 when I decided to take action and start searching for ways to earn an income that would provide virtual freedom.
While still working a full-time job in Destin, Florida, I replaced my corporate salary in just 90 days by helping business owners remotely with their marketing and operations. This led to the official founding of my first company with my twin sister Tabatha, Twinning Pros—an award-winning digital marketing agency that helps brands of all sizes attract, convert, and retain customers with a powerful online presence. Twinning Pros offers services like website design, SEO, social media marketing, public relations, email marketing, content creation, podcast management, and so much more.
Throughout these experiences, I developed a passion for empowering women to launch online businesses, so they have the opportunity to be the best version of themselves and live the kind of life they actually want. This prompted the ideation and launch of my second business, Virtual Career Girl, in 2019.
Today, I live in Bergen, Norway, with my husband, two daughters, and dog Sunny. where I help clients internationally magnify their digital presence and find the virtual freedom I was able to create for myself.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing our clientele has been networking, building relationships, and fostering connections. A lot of my time, effort, and energy goes into networking and building genuine connections. I live internationally, so I don’t get many opportunities to network in person, so I do a lot of online networking. Our business has consistently grown based on referrals. We get referrals from people in my online communities and current and previous clients. I love being able to have a warm lead come to us because of a connection with someone else than a cold lead coming into my marketing funnel. If a lead comes in warm, they will at least know a bit about our company and our services, and possibly pricing – so there is more of a possibility they will be a good fit to work with.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Website Design and Graphic Design has always been a side hustle for me. I learned how to design my first website back in 2006, but I never thought it could ever be my full-time job. After a stint in IT and climbing the corporate ladder in tech, my sister finally convinced me to move to the beach in 2016. Even when I started working remotely back in 2017 on websites like Upwork, I still handled Operational projects because I never thought my job could be handling projects I absolutely love all the time. Marketing projects like website design or even working on branding projects like creating brand collateral were my creative outlet. I considered it my hobby that paid a little. While working my full-time job, I started handling a variety of different projects and would basically take any project that was marketing, operations, customer service, or administrative until I started getting more and more marketing contracts. Within 90 days, I was able to replace my full-time income with my little side hustle. My twin sister and I both worked as independent contractors or virtual assistants until we were able to self-fund our startup.
