Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tiffany Combs. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tiffany, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you scale up? What were the strategies, tactics, meaningful moments, twists/turns, obstacles, mistakes along the way? The world needs to hear more realistic, actionable stories about this critical part of the business building journey. Tell us your scaling up story – bring us along so we can understand what it was like making the decisions you had, implementing the strategies/tactics etc.
Wow, where do I start? It definitely has not been a smooth road and I have encountered MULTIPLE struggles along the way. The bumpy road began at the start of my journey when I was faced with the option of leaving my corporate full-time job in order to my follow my dreams – something a lot of people would never do because of the unknowns of life. However, after much thought and prayer, I made the hardest decision of my life (which later became the best decision of my life) and quit my job to follow my heart and passion.
For nearly two years after my decision, I was faced with traveling almost two hours three days a week to the Aveda Institute in Atlanta, Georgia while working part-time Monday through Wednesday at a local salon and community college to make ends meet. Of course, I was extremely tired on several occasions and was faced with losing one of my part-time jobs and car troubles, however, I knew that this sacrifice would pay off and happiness would be the end result. It wasn’t easy, but with the support and encouragement of friends and family, I never gave up and I graduated in November 2016 as a licensed master cosmetologist.
But wait, there’s always a silver lining! While at Aveda, I found inspiration and motivation to scale up my business, and I decided to specialize in extensions and hair loss. After several months of research I decided to get Certified as a Hair loss Specialist. I wanted to create hair replacement solutions to help restore, rebuild and regrow tresses and confidence in individuals. I worked countless hours and days to master this skillset. I am proud to say ” I MASTERED IT!” This was definitely one of the highlights of my life, and two months after graduation, I launched Girlfriend, wig line. Life as a stylist began and life with extensions became alive.
Tiffany, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Tiffany Combs and I was born and raised in Blakely, Georgia on the Miller Farm. My dad is a local third generation farmer. Therefore entrepreneurship is in my blood.
As a little girl, I remember watching my grandma Ruby press my cousins hair and I was intrigued by the experience and was eager to learn more. As I grew older, the love for hair and this profession grew stronger. I became passionate about my craft and my gift.
I moved to Columbus, GA in Fall of 2005 to pursue my career in Accounting. Four years later, I received my Bachelor in Accounting and a year and half after a MBA. Fully focused in my Accounting career my mind continued to wander in the beauty industry. In May 2012, I created the collaborative brand Her Glory.
Her Glory is a luxury professional beauty brand providing exclusive salon services, premier extension, custom Girlfriend units and PURE perfect hair care products. On November 2015, I decided to quit my job as an Accounting Instructor at a Community College and pursue my dreams in beauty at Aveda in Atlanta, Georgia.
In early fall of 2017, Tiffany, an eager and determined young professional opened a luxury, private one-on- one upscale salon suite in Columbus, Georgia. Since establishing the extension brand, Her Glory in 2012, she decided it was time to open her amazing salon called Her Glory Salon + Extensions.
In order to be successful in this industry, Tiffany knew she had tobecome a specialist. Now, as a Licensed Master Cosmetologist and certified Lace Frontal and Hair Loss Specialist for non-surgical hair replacement, she is passionate about her craft and gift.
In 2018, Tiffany created a custom unit wig-line, Girlfriends, provides custom wigs for individuals with hair loss due to alopecia areata, cancer, or any other hair loss concern. Girlfriend Units are also available for anyone that wants to add variety to their look.
Tiffany is most proud of her new salon located in beautiful Uptown Columbus, GA. Tiffany loved the intimate setting over the past years in the first salon location and she is excite to keep that close feeling of intimacy now at the Uptown location. However now we can create a heighten FULL salon experience with the now nearly 1300 square ft. space.
Tiffany can’t wait for you to see the new salon and make your new salon home with Her Glory Salon + Extensions!
