We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiffany Burton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear from you about what you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry and why it matters.
Some Corporate America believers, believe that hiring a business coach/business consultant are not worth the money. Some feel that you can learn how to operate a business using google. They also believe consultants do not fully help business owners. Here is what I would say to those Corporate America believers. Do your research first, Secondly, know why you hiring a business consultant. A consultant is designed to help you grow your business bases off their experience in the industry. If you looking for a consultant who’s certified in Finance, marketing, business coaching and/or business plans. Make sure your consultant specialize in that area. Lastly, read your potential business consultant resume. Make sure they are alignment with what you are looking for in your industry type. If you invest your money to open a business make sure you’re not one of those statistics closed within 2 years due to lack of knowledge.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
WBFC is a firm founded on working closely with business owners serving as a thought partner by helping them start a business and stay successful in entrepreneurship.
As the owner, I noticed businesses typically closed within 2 years. I wanted to change these statistics. Over the course of working with business owners for 15 years, it became quite normal seeing businesses close quickly.
The main reason I noticed they closed were proper finance knowledge, not pricing their products correctly, lack of marketing, and not having a business plan.
But most importantly, they did not hire an Executive Business Coach to help them along the way. I started the idea of wanting to be an Executive Business Coach after working as an Advertising Sales Rep for The Commercial Appeal back in 2006. Some years later, I had a client friend who needed help with their business. Mostly because they trusted my judgment to grow their business by helping them with making more profits and marketing ideas.
After helping this partial customer for years, that is when I became their personal business consultant for 2 years. After seeing major results with this one client I decided to take this business venture more seriously by forming a corporation. As of now, WBFC has a growing portfolio of clients. We are most proud of seeing our clients succeed. When they are successful the Coach is successful. Business changes business lives for the better so they can run their business more efficiently for years to come.
My firm offers one on one business coaching. We help create/review business plans, we teach business credit and business finance. WBFC’s motto is “We listen. You prosper. Your business grows.” There is no client too small or too big we cannot service. We are educated and trained to service all customers.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Funding for the business was pretty seamless since the business was started as a side hustle. I had one client for years, so I was able to fund the business with the money I made from one recurring client. I was able to use those funds to start up the business and open my business account. Within the first year, I spend a lot of money on advertising for branding purposes. Once the client base increased, I was able to move into an office space to be able to meet with the customers face-to-face and host monthly workshops. From there I am able to keep a steady flow to continue to increase my client base to make profits.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
As an Executive Coach, I bring clients experience and education. I worked in the banking industry for 15 years. I also worked in Marketing/Advertising for 2 years. In addition, to experience, I bring education, I have an MBA in Business Administration and I have a master’s Finance certification. My client trusts me with their brand to grow their business. When your client trusts you, they will stay longer, they will send you referrals and they will always stay loyal to you.
