We were lucky to catch up with Tiffany Brown recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tiffany thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
It all started with my daddy. He was the first person to put a camera in my hand. It was a Polaroid camera, and I was hooked. My daddy was loved documenting moments and milestones in our lives. As far back as I can remember, I either had a camera or camcorder in my hands helping my daddy capture these moments. In June of 2021 we found out that my daddy had terminal small cell lung cancer. I was in the hospital with him and my mom on the day the doctor delivered the news. I captured the first embrace when my mom hugged my daddy after hearing the news of his diagnosis to our very last precious moments with him when he passed away in April 2022 … 18 days before my 40th birthday. During this journey is when my passion for documentary photography was born. Everyday moments are often overlooked. Another thing that is often overlooked is the story behind the photograph. My mission is to help families capture as many special moments as possible with their loved ones. I want to be a part of the stories that my clients will cherish for a lifetime, even the challenging ones.
Tiffany, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Of course! With 20 years of executive sales experience, I have been able to successfully utilize the skills I gained in corporate America to launch several businesses and coach other women to do the same. My many “hats” include host of “The P Word” podcast, social media influencer, professional photographer, blogger, makeup artist, and business coach. She is married with three children and resides in metro Orlando. In 2021, I finally took the leap of faith and “officially” stepped into my purpose and launched my photography business, Tiffany D. Brown Photography, LLC. My passion for photography was inspired by my dad who loved to document every milestone and special moments. Before my dad’s cancer diagnosis, I was focused on influencer and branding photography. It wasn’t until I started to document moments with my him that I decided to pivot and focus on capturing moments that matter through photography, no matter how difficult it may be: documentary photography. I capture the stories that matter most to my clients. My goal is to partner with other families to help them document moments with their loved ones who may be faced with some of the same challenges that I had to experience.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a photographer is building long-lasting relationship with my clients and their families. When someone trusts you to document moments that are important to them, it takes the relationship to an entirely new level. One thing I value most is having great relationships in business and in life.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Sometimes, I think non-creatives will struggle to understand about my journey as a creative. I want them to know that it is OK to be good at more than one thing! The beauty of being a creative is that we are always innovating since we are full of ideas. It wasn’t until I was laid off from my corporate job in 2009 when I decided to finally tap into my creative skills. I started with being professional makeup artist which led to being a social media influencer, business coach, podcaster … and now professional photographer. Creatives will always create.
