We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiffany Borrego a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents are the best support system I could’ve ever asked for and they have always pushed me to achieve my goals and dreams, no matter how big or small they are. They taught me to work hard for what I wanted in life and that with drive and determination anything would be possible, so that’s always been in my mind when I want to start a new hobby or truly anything I do in life.
Both in my studies and in my professional life, I’ve gdone through a tremendous journey of growth and self discovery. I went into college thinking I would study one thing and I decided to take a huge leap of faith during my first semester; I changed my career track and it was truly the best decision I could have ever made. Without my parents being there for me and pushing me to do what I wanted to do with my career, no matter how hard or unpredictable it would be, I wouldn’t have made the choice to switch degrees out of fear of failure and I wouldn’t have been able to study abroad in Spain two years later, make the friends I did, or discover new hobbies that I wouldn’t have ever imagined participating in. That support system is what helped push me to be the first to graduate college from my family and to go ahead and get my master’s degree a year later. Of course, I have experienced a lot of ups and downs but I take them all as a learning experience, as my parents taught me to do. Without them, I truly don’t know where I’d be.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Hi! My name is Tiffany Geovana Borrego, a lot of people know me as Tiffany Geovana on social media, and I am a content creator and photographer from the Tampa Bay Area. My dad is a retired journalist so from a young age I’ve had an appreciation for photography. For as long as I can remember, photography has played a huge role in my life and making moments permanent has always been a passion of mine. I started doing photography professionally about a decade ago and have loved every minute of it.
About six years ago, I started drifting more into the world of blogging while doing an internship with CollegeFashionista in college and that catapulted me into the world of content creation that I’m currently in. With CollegeFashionista, I was taking photos of people around my college and myself, conducting interviews about fashion and beauty, and creating blog posts for the company. I started getting sent products to shoot and promote on my social media and slowly but surely, I started to see my accounts and opportunities grow. I remember that my biggest campaign was for Dior and their Poison Girl perfume, and that’s when I said “Momma, I made it!”
Fast forward to today- I have had the privilege to work with some incredible brands from around the world, travel and create content, and explore my hometown in a way I had never imagined I’d ever do. I now do content creation for local businesses and campaigns with brands from across the country, while also working a full-time job as a translator and trying to travel as much as I possibly can. I am a very passionate person and I go full force into whatever I want to do in my life, and this is one of those things that I never knew I wanted to do (or expected to ever do), but I am so incredibly thankful to have the opportunity to do these things I love so much.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goal that’s currently driving my creative journey is simple- happiness.
I have always said that I want to be happy with whatever I end up doing in my life, whether that be in my career, my relationships, etc. I’ve always been a creative and artistic person but I never thought I’d be able to apply it in this way, especially at this point in my life. Since I never had the goal of becoming an “influencer” or a content creator, having the creative outlet I have now is something that I never thought would be possible and I am so incredibly thankful for it.
So now that I have this opportunity to make both myself and the people around me happy, I want to continue on this path to happiness, doing what I love. I love traveling and documenting my adventures more than anything, so I hope to continue to see the world, document it, and take it all one step at a time.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I think a lesson I had to unlearn was to be a people pleaser to please everyone around me. I grew up having that mindset, that I had to please everyone and do whatever other people wanted me to do and not what I wanted to do. It’s taken me a while to unlearn it (and I’m still working on unlearning it to this day), but I have grown a lot from doing so. I have learned to live my life how I want to live it, to do what makes me happy and not worry about what everyone else thinks I should do, and the main thing- you will never be able to achieve perfection. I now focus on my hobbies more than ever, I post the content that I want to post on my social media accounts, try my hardest to be the best version of myself that I can be and show my true self, no matter how quirky or different it may be.
