We were lucky to catch up with Tiffany Bivins recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I came up with the name of my company by tapping into my family history. Maddox & Co started as a dedication to the Legacy of my Grandfather, so I decided to use our family surname as the company name.
Tiffany, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Maddox and Co. was birthed in 2013, two years after my grandfather passed. I wanted a way to keep his legacy alive, and I figured it would be a good idea to form a business around who he was day to day. He always dressed nicely and had the nicest shoes, so that’s what stuck. We conducted research in the US, and several international locations, until we felt comfortable launching our products. It was definitely time-consuming and multi-faceted. We offer Men’s shoes and accessories that are timeless, comfortable, and stylish. For so long, there has been a gap in affordable and stylish options, so Maddox solves that for our customer base. We’re most proud of being able to offer a comfortable shoe that checks all the style boxes, and you can keep it for years to come.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
It has definitely NOT been a smooth road. We’ve had factory and supply chain challenges, capital setbacks, and market fluctuations that have really hit us hard. Starting a B2C brand is a large feat, and in order to be successful, you have to have a solid supply chain. The main struggle for us is one of our main factories requires a high MOQ. That has stalled progress, in a sense, but we are persevering.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Funding a business is always the most difficult part. For Maddox & Co., we have always been a bootstrapped company. Ideally, we’d like to have investments from other sources, and we are working to get capital ready.
